Stumbled upon an RSA Animate video featuring Dan Pink. Have you heard of this guy? Have you seen his stuff on You Tube?

It blew my mind yesterday. The three things I wrote down from the ten minute video? The three things we all want, and the three things most organizational leadership structure neglects:

  1. Autonomy – shedding status quo
  2. Mastery – our urge to get better
  3. Purpose – deep desire to make a difference

Posted three times here at jungle jeff yesterday. This may not be today’s final post either. I hope you feel energized today. It’s your responsibility.

Trophy Value

Last night as my wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with our great company, it really hit me.  I mean, it seriously hit me.  And it really comes as no surprise.  However, because of it’s simplicity, it is rampantly commonly overlooked.

Great companies are founded and grow for one simple reason: They want to make a difference in the lives of others.

Plus, great companies reward loyalty with valuable trophies. Trophy value is a priceless, intangible reminder that an employee’s longevity is an integral part of being world-class.

Say what you want, but nothing changes the fact that there is an unstoppable force when people are led with passion and are committed to make a difference.

And then it occurred to me this morning, that’s why I write five daily blogs.  I mean, who does that?

Does this mean I get another trophy?

jungle jeff is on purpose.

Are you on purpose? If you are, fantastic.  If you’re not, there’s hope. Surely you believe there’s hope.

Walt Disney’s “Small World” is a classic song of hope.

Here are a few things I did to get and stay “on purpose”:

  1. Thought about my purpose.  A lot.
  2. Observed others who where on purpose.
  3. Observed others who weren’t.
  4. Evaluated the pros & cons for both.
  5. Committed to figuring it out.
  6. Visualized it.  Tasted it.  Felt it.
  7. Never gave up.
  8. Wrote it down.  Crafted every word.
  9. Eventually, made it ridiculously simple (from 463 words to two).
  10. Lived it.  Living it.  Carpe diem.

Did I get it right the very first time?  No.

Was is hard to do?  Yes.

Did it take a long time?  Yes.

In my opinion, if you want to unleash your fullest potential, you will do the hard work to figure this out.
