Time poor, work

Sanibel Island, Florida…all time favorite beach vacations. Worked many ‘vacation’ days here, for many years. It is what it is.

Retired the first time (from Disney) on Halloween, 2014. Retired a second time (from Mid Life Celebration, LLC) on New Year’s Day, 2026.

Am i time poor? And, does it even matter?

Time poor is when you are so busy, you cannot afford to waste any time.

You are living without any discretionary time.

No extra time to do something that isn’t required.

But guess what?

Work is no longer required.

The new goal is to ween myself off the need to contribute excellent work (for a paycheck).

With pay comes accountability and responsibility. Since pay is no longer required in our life, i’m anxious to see and feel the lightness of not having pay, nor the responsibility and accountability.

Not only will there be time regained from not working, but also mental energy and emotional energy regained.

.thinking .differently has a new vision.

The thing about everything, work

Disney Top Corporate Trainers
It’s simple. i retired from Disney in 2014 to fulfill a purpose bigger than Disney. Note the new Cast Member ID card middle-right: RETIREE. And as i write this it’s 2026 and i’ve finally retired a second time, December 31, 2025.

The thing about everything is that everything takes longer than you plan.

Noteworthy, there’s an exception to nearly every rule.

Exceptions are rare.

i planned on not working.

Most American’s typically think age 65 is the goal line.

Seems fair and reasonable.

Went a bit past 65, yet feel good about taking a little longer.

Time, work

Four people at the shore of a mountain Lake
Traditional way to start our annual summer visit.

Exciting to see three high school freshmen move to their next life phase.

How does a decade fly by?

What their first ‘real’ jobs teach them is exciting.

Busy-ness is toxic

When our calendar is packed and then a small but important to solve challenge appears. And sometimes (daily?) more than one challenge appears. Photo: This 17 should never be more than two. Never.

Business consulting-type work has heightened my awareness of, and ability to consciously detect, how busy most people are.

It’s obscene.

The stress has unknowingly become contagious.

But now it’s crystal clear.

Ask me how much busy-ness i can tolerate at this life-stage.

Easy answer at six-plus decades on the planet and five-plus decades in the workforce…

Zero.

Career gymnastics

zoom call screen photo
Spent five hours combing through all my FaceBook posts. Monica’s Real Estate Business Podcast was recorded as a kickoff to her “tribe” of ambitious real estate agents. They listened to one episode per week and then discussed it in a separate (also weekly) Zoom meeting. Watched about 15 minutes of it and it was ‘pretty good’. So i didn’t delete it. It’s here.

Career gymnastics.

Don’t let your blind ambition erase your intuition.

Climb high, but ensure you love what you do.

A ‘good’ paycheck is a high price to pay when you wish you had a more fulfilling job.

Work is only work if you’d rather be doing something else.
