Only so many, work

There are only so many things you can do especially well.

Only so many thoughts that summarize the whole work-life volume.

For example: No one on their deathbed ever said, “Wish I would have spent more time at the office.”

Disney Institute Leadership Excellence, work

Disney speaker jeff noel
My final day. October 31, 2014. Walking to work.

Disney Institute class…

Disney’s Approach to Leadership Excellence.

Thesis statement…

We judge ourselves on our intentions, others judge us on our behaviors.

We begin our content with a profoundly simple yet simply profound leadership catalyst…

Vision.

What’s the difference between a vision and a vision statement?

Answer: Your future.

Next, we dive into Involvement, Accountability, Commitment.

Context: Involvement is training and development. Two entirely different genres. Most people think “training and development” is a fancy phrase meaning one thing. It’s two words meaning entirely different things.

Also, Accountability focuses on clarity and simplicity. Clarity is power. Simplicity is operational genius.

Bonus: The three-legged stool is the first filter. Leadership is the second.

Life is a career gamble

mid life celebration, the book
Random grab from iPhoto library. There are hundreds of thousands of photos. Been carrying a camera with me way before the phone doubled as a camera.

Life is a career gamble.

The reason we work is to earn the currency that allows us to live, eat, and play. And to afford things like insurance and healthcare that help us when we have troubles.

The career you chose – the work you are paid to do – is a reflection of your personal investment in understanding foundational truths.

Rather than riff about it on this post, will stop and simple say, use this blog’s search function and use keywords that focus on what you believe are personal leadership truths. With 5,000+ posts on this individual website, this is a hybrid master-class waiting to happen. The topic: Personal leadership excellence.

Should we lower our standards?

Who in their right mind spends this much time, thought, energy, and money on something as unimportant as themed trash cans?

Should we lower our standards?

Each of us is a VIP.

A Very Individual Person.

Each of us has a set of standards for our life, compartmentalized by big life choices (mind, body, spirit, work, home).

While life’s five big choices are independent, they are also co-dependent and symbiotic.

Take work/career.

You have your professional standards.

They serve you and are the foundation for all your professional accomplishments, your skills, and productivity.

Would you, or should you, lower them?

Yeah, i don’t want to lower mine either.

So where do we go from here?

Just because something works well

Bob’s Masterclass has two camera angles.

Just because something works well, does not mean it cannot be improved.

The road to excellence has no finish line.
