i get high on teaching

coaching call notes on napkin
Three ways we improve: by accident, from a sub-goal to a larger goal, and by making daily improvement a non-negotiable in the form of a “game”.

i get high on teaching.

A text sent yesterday after a 40-minute coaching call…

the gloomy cold rainy day had me think about what people might do if they had the day off…rather than drink or get high, i’d love to be absorbed in teaching (and teaching teaches me – to teach is to learn twice)

Should we lower our standards?

Who in their right mind spends this much time, thought, energy, and money on something as unimportant as themed trash cans?

Should we lower our standards?

Each of us is a VIP.

A Very Individual Person.

Each of us has a set of standards for our life, compartmentalized by big life choices (mind, body, spirit, work, home).

While life’s five big choices are independent, they are also co-dependent and symbiotic.

Take work/career.

You have your professional standards.

They serve you and are the foundation for all your professional accomplishments, your skills, and productivity.

Would you, or should you, lower them?

Yeah, i don’t want to lower mine either.

So where do we go from here?

Helper’s high

Disney Institute Speakers
It requires 25 purchases to get 20% off. Can you imagine? A loyal client and i have the option to work together again in 2019. Only days away from December 1, i’ve been thinking about 2019 pricing structure for a few months.

Helper’s high.

The feeling you get after you do a random act of kindness.

This can, and should, become a lifelong habit.

And the secret and successful way to scale and sustain this habit for a lifetime is to embrace and practice the extra inch.

What type of leader have we become since high school?

work challenges
The answer to a brand manager’s top three daily time consuming tasks, in a LinkedIn messaging exchange.

old fashioned type writer
Imagine how much effort it was without spell check, cut & paste, and delete.

Fall trees in yellow
Blurry wasn’t intentional, but it’s a great metaphor to aging.

The High School tour last night included seeing this poster outside the Music room.

Frank Zappa quote
Also outside the Music room…my personal favorite of the many posters i saw on the hour tour.

What type of leader have we become since high school?

Does this even cross our mind?

Should it?

Should it not?

Forty years is a lot of time to grow, to transform even.

But have we?

Are we better?

Or have we not?

Why?

Totally worth feeling amazing about our answer.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

The teen asked his dad, “Are you high?”

Dad, “Yes. High on life.”

Unintentionally fell into a huge reduction in caffeine intake while visiting out-of-state family over Christmas break.

Plus, 13 years alcohol (and smoke) free.

Plus breaking free of the corporate leash. (even though it was a labor of love)

Getting regular, adequate rest.

Here’s what chemical dependance hides from us: our body creates it’s own high once it realizes we are committed to it.
