jungle jeff Social Media Expert?

jungle jeff Social Media Expert?  Maybe. Says who?

You know how you get to be an expert? I certainly didn’t.  Because I , and so few others, stick with anything long enough and passionately enough to master it, let alone become the teacher.

That’s when you start becoming the expert.  When people come to you to learn.

What does it take to be a social media expert?  Here are a few of my guesses:

  • Have at least 1,000 blogs posts to be taken seriously
  • Be on Google results front page for all your websites
  • Host multiple blogs
  • Post daily (say five per day)
  • Generate millions of hits annually
  • Use the big social media tools
  • Be on the curve for the newly emerging tools
  • Make money and change lives
  • Have fun
  • Have guts
  • Have decently thick skin
  • Be prepared to work hard and stretch yourself

I don’t make anything up.  That’s part of my personal brand commitment.

Audacious ain’t it?  Maybe even antagonistic?  Perfect.

That’s part of my brand promise too.

Walt Disney on Twitter?

jungle jeff readers, please feel free to follow me on Twitter @jeffnoelmidlife

Disney, as in the man Walt Disney, has taught me to experiment with every new and innovative way to strive for perfection.  And it was Vince Lombardi, legendary head coach for the Green Bay Packers, that said, “In chasing perfection, we will catch excellence”.

My son, as much as I try to teach and inspire him, actually teaches and inspires me.  Who would have thought?

How?  Well, for starters, he looks at technology like you and I breathe the air – casually, effortlessly, and fearlessly.

Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Blogs, Websites, GoDaddy, WordPress, Skype, Mobile Me, iPhone,iPhone apps, IM, You Tube, Google analytics, etc.

Our nine year old son is familiar with them all.  I know.  I’m his teacher.

He thinks I make technology look effortless.  if he only knew how hard I worked.

Bet Walt Disney felt the same way.  Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂

Twitterdom or Wisdom?

This thought-provoking article is worth a few minutes of your time.

Oh, I almost forgot, you don’t have 180 seconds to spare.

I was at Starbucks on Friday and ordered a tall (which is really a small – too funny) cup of coffee.  They were out.  So if Starbucks has to brew a fresh pot for you – in 180 seconds – they provide it complimentary.

When he made the offer, I thought, “I don’t have three minutes.  I gotta get going“.

Then it hit me, “If you don’t have 180 seconds to spare in your life, you better go look in the mirror and ask why”, I said to myself.

It was amazing, in those brief three minutes, what I saw in the mirror.

I saw a man who has a difficult time fitting all life’s puzzle pieces together.  But a man who doesn’t give up.

I was sad and happy all in the course of 180 seconds.

After picking up my son at summer camp, we went to Gold’s Gym for an hour.

It was a great day, because I took even more time to reflect on what’s important, and then acted on it

Disney & Hurricane Season

Hurricane season and Disney.  What does this mean?

Hurricane season starts today, June 1.

It also means hurricanes are most likely two months away.

We have already been thinking ahead.  That is what great organizations and great leaders do.  They think ahead.

Because this is such a simple concept to grasp, many overlook it when faced with more urgent tasks, like getting through the business day in these turbulent times.

But the reality of hurricanes never goes away, no matter how busy or how distracted we become.

Same with other important and simple concepts, like our health, as a relevant example.

Diet and exercise right?

Those two simple concepts will keep your cholesterol and blood pressure in better shape than if you don’t focus on them.  Right?

Then why do so many of us struggle to stay healthy?

The health of an organization is two simple things as well:  Culture and Leadership.

What are you doing to stay healthy?

Disney Twitter or Twitter Disney?

This morning’s Orlando Sentinel has great news, the Orlando Magic are going to the NBA finals.  Woo-hoo!

It also featured an article on Twitter.  Seems the Orlando Sentinel “newspaper”, which I read every morning, online, is now on Twitter.

The Sentinel’s Tech expert and writer, Etan Horowitz, explains in OS.com on Twitter.

What does this have to do with jungle jeff?

That’s right, you guessed it.  Everything.

At a nine-year old’s birthday party yesterday, while our son was having fun with his friends in the pool, another parent and I discussed his iPhone, my new MacBook, and a few dozen really cool social media apps that most people are not familiar with.

Twitter?  Yes, most have heard of, but few understand, it’s capability to market their business.  Just look up Twitter on Google to see the buzz.

One of those companies that does understand it is the Orlando Sentinel.

What about you?
