Is It Possible To Deliver Great Outcomes Every Single Day?

Greensboro, North Carolina (90-days ago yesterday)

Is it possible to perform our jobs at extraordinarily high levels day in and day out?

We would hope our surgeon does. Or the general contractor building our home. Or our child’s school teacher. Or our elected officials. But what about our personal responsibility?

I always listen for the choice of words people use after the classes I teach are over. Hearing “that was really good”, “enjoyed it”, “you did a good job” is significantly different than “that was amazing”, “perfect”, “it was excellent!”

Yesterday was exceptional. Always aim for it. Feel blessed when you nail it.

Against All Odds

Yesterday….(Not the Beatles).

Happy Birthday (yesterday) to Disneyland!

Walt Disney said:

“I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to it’s possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits.  For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours.  I have a blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgement and showmanship, will win out against all odds”.

If Walt Disney could have envisioned how successful his business philosophy would ultimately become and how far it would take The Walt Disney Company, maybe he would have found a way to quit smoking.

Crazy, yes.  Impossible, no.

Walt Disney never used the word, “Impossible”!

What, No Pixie Dust?

A comment on yesterday’s jungle jeff post started me thinking.

His question to me was, “No Pixie Dust”?

It was “missing” from my personal Leadership Top Ten List.

He made a good point and I thought for a moment, “How could I have forgotten Pixie Dust”?

Then, just as quickly, if not faster, the answer hit me.

Pixie Dust IS Passion.  Period.

What’s Magic about the way Disney does things is their PASSION to:

  1. Create the highest quality products and services.
  2. To stay focused on why they are in business – to serve their Guests
  3. To stay disciplined to “keep their eye on the ball” – Quality

Passion IS Pixie Dust.

Always was.  Always will be.   Thank you Walt Disney for your vision.

By the way, Vision and Passion are my respective number one & two top leadership values.

Guess what’s number three?   Communication!

Looks like a coincidence, doesn’t it?  The harder you work, the luckier you get.

PS.  Does your own Vision send shivers down your spine?

PSS.  What if it did?  Can you comprehend that?  I hope so.  🙂
