Why Are You In Trouble?

Intimidated?
Intimidated?

Because you don’t have time to read this.

Because you don’t have time to follow this leadership blog.

Because you keep quoting others and have no quotes of your own.

Because you keep waiting for someone else to change.

Because you feel life isn’t fair.

Because you talk a good talk, but don’t walk a good walk.

Because you’re afraid.

All of these things can be dealt with.  But you don’t know where to begin.

Begin here.

One small daily step at a time.

Humans want quick fixes.

When will you finally accept that life doesn’t work like that?

Life works the opposite.

Second Great Leadership Book

Money Is Good
Money Is Good

Wow.  Ever heard that phrase, “Time flies when you’re having fun?” Can’t believe it’s been nearly two weeks since I started writing about the two top leadership books I read in 2009.

Guess what, I never shared the second book.  The Last Lecture was the second great leadership book I read in 2009.  And the first?

Rich Dad Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki.

How many knew I’ve had a Rich Dad Poor Dad book review over on the right hand column all 2009?

Look At All These

Money Tree?
Money Tree?

Look at all these things we have to do:

  • Buy Insurance
  • Buckle our Seat Belt
  • Say Thank You
  • Brush Our Teeth
  • Be Nice to Others
  • Lock Our Doors Before Bedtime
  • Do a Great Job at Work
  • Blah, blah, blah

But, ask us to think about our personal vision statement, and you might as well ask us if we can grow a money tree.

Why is that?  Am I missing something?

Two Days Ago

What Are the Odds?
What Are the Odds?

Two days ago you saw the post about someone I know who got a separation package.

He saw it coming and started a business in advance of the separation.

Remember?

What I didn’t mention then, but must now, his chances for survival after five years are as good as all the others starting a business.

Entrepreneurial people have to work very, very hard.  Why?  Because if they fail…

But if they succeed, they have amazing opportunities.

But no one ever talks openly about the odds.  You know why?

You do know the odds right?

Sense of Urgency

Sense of Urgency?
Sense of Urgency?

Reading a book has the potential to alter the way we behave. This can be a gift. It can also be a curse.

The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch, was a gift.

Randy’s book helped me see the same things I always see, in a completely different light.

It was in the contemplative moments, inspired by his news, “You have about six months to live”, that really helped me see a blind spot.

A blind spot that most humans share.

Putting important things off because they are not urgent.

Health.  Family.  Spirit.  Life.  Legacy.

What does this have to do with leadership?

Do I really have to explain it?  Because if I do, it worries me that you still might not get it.

You will eventually, but what if someone disconnects your phone?
