Friday night my son and I watched “Meet the Robinsons” on The Disney Channel.  At the very end of the Disney movie is Walt Disney’s quote.

Do you know what Charles Darwin and Walt Disney are trying to say?

Motivation Is Like A Meal

Motivation is like a meal.  Seriously.  But we all forget.

Should an Annual Conference’s motivational effects last all year?

Should monthly meetings keep teams inspired all month?

Weekly meetings?  Will the excitement last all week?

Daily meetings?  All day?

After breakfast, most humans are ready to be nourished again at lunch. Even after two decent meals, most are ready for a third meal in the evening.

We even throw in snacks to help sustain us. Why?

Because motivation, inspiration and excitement begin to subside within hours, just like meals.

Do you have any idea what this means to you and me as effective leaders?

LinkedIn Profile Quick Tip

LinkedIn profiles.  How many have you read?  I’ve read a ton.

Please forgive me for saying this, “Most of them bore me to tears”. They all say essentially the same thing about the author, “I’m so smart, I’m so smart, I’m so smart”.

The intent, noble.  The result, boring.  Why?  Because they all sound the same. Without creativity, and without courage, we perform the status quo.

Who’s looking to hire status quo?  In today’s tough market, I’m guessing no one.

What prompted this post?  A couple days ago a LinkedIn connection said, “Yours is the best LinkedIn profile ever.  Interesting yet informative”.

Ok, so it’s just one person’s opinion, but it sure feels good to know the intent and the result aligned.

What Do You Mean?

What’s it mean in my LinkedIn Profile, when it says “I give speeches to change the world”?

Well, it’s a bold statement to be sure. And, it’s essence is placed in the profile for a very specific reason.

Is it possible to give speeches to change the world? Indeed.  Just ask this audience in Dallas, Texas.  Dalton Sherman, an 11-year old fifth grader gave a speech.  Maybe he’ll help change the world in Dallas.

If you don’t have nine minutes to listen to the whole thing, simply watch the first minute.

That’s what I’m trying to say, “I give speeches to change the world”.

Number One Reason

Last weekend, my son (9) and I were relaxing in our pool at sunset.  I asked him, “You know why I’m working so hard on the business, right”?

“In case you lose your job”?, he said, questioning.

“Well sort of, but not really because of that.  I would like to have more control over the impact one can make on our world.  Being a business owner doesn’t guarantee that, but it sure does increase the odds”.

Reminded him of the power of hard work and how it’s harder at the beginning, in virtually everything, because there’s so much to learn.

Funny thing, for a nine-year old, he gets it.  And it’s easy to see why.

When his Dad became a parent, he worked really hard at the beginning, because there was so much to learn.

PS.  What I didn’t tell him is the “business” is my attempt to help raise enough money to find a cure for his disease.
