Smart Bomb

Smart Bomb?
Smart Bomb?

The silver bullet, and we’re not talking Coors Light here. Don’t we dream of finding the silver bullet?

The silver bullet for leadership, for customer service, for brand recognition, marketing, market share, sales, etc.

Maybe we are searching for the wrong solution.

Maybe we should be in search of the …. smart bomb.

Smart bomb?  Yes. I just discovered it. (it was right next to the fountain of youth)

My son and his friend are playing video games.

I’m eating some cold, left-over Pasitano’s Pizza for lunch.

Watching them play, with their nine-year old competitive juices flowing, they just got excited about a smart bomb.  I watched the bomb grow in size, until it was a giant bubble on the TV, and then it exploded.

All I could think to do was groan for them, in their apparent loss.  Because, like most bombs, a big explosion does serious damage.

They corrected me, the way nine-year olds do when adults reveal their complete incompetence about stuff they didn’t grow up with.

A smart bomb, when it explodes, makes everyone near it – smarter, more effective.   Better.

Smart bomb.  Has a nice ring to it. Imagine if you worked on something important and then it sort of exploded in your face. Youch.

Or, “EUREKA!”  As in – “Used to express triumph upon finding or discovering something.”

You know, the silver bullet.

Seth Godin’s Top Book Picks

Seth Godin announced his November Top Book picks. Click here.

Most people, like I was three months ago, are clueless who Seth Godin is.

If you are serious about your career, and committed to becoming better at your leadership performance, and especially your leadership thinking, you better should become familiar with Seth Godin.

I first read Purple Cow (about being remarkable) and now Tribes (about, well, stay tuned).

Seth Godin is also on You Tube and you can start to see how refreshingly different, and amazingly brilliant, his thinking is.

But wait. I almost forgot. Most humans (like 90%) are not proactively seeking change.  Leaders say they embrace change, but how often do you see leaders transforming themselves and others?

Purple Cow, Unleashing The Idea Virus, Permission Marketing, The Free Prize Inside, Tribes, The Dip, Survival Is Not Enough, All Marketers Are Liars, The Big Red Fez, Small Is The New Big, The Big Moo, Meatball Sundae – Seth Godin has written, marketed and sold some of the best books and ebooks, since 1999.

St Thomas Aquinas Said….

St Thomas Aquinas said….:

“We must love them both – those whose opinions we share and those whose opinions we reject.  For both have labored in search for truth, and both have helped us in the finding of it”.

Great quote. Great thought.  Great perspective.

To a point, then I must agree to disagree.

Following the status quo, or “That’s the way we’ve always done it”, doesn’t seem to require as much laboring as does challenging the status quo.

Challenging the status quo is a lonely place.  A very lonely place.

Take exercise.  And to my dismay, we don’t see pictures of or hear stories of Walt Disney making exercise a priority. Sure, he played polo as far as we know.

However, Disney has taught me to eat, drink, sleep and breath excellence. Take Alfred Prokschin.  At age 100, he won a Gold medal two weeks ago at the WMA Masters Tarck & Field World Championships in Lahti, Finland:

If not you, who? If not today, when?  Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂
