Learning to lead yourself is often under-focused on at home

Cross Country warmup
Warming up, as a team – both high school and middle school.

Learning to lead yourself is often under-focused on at home. i think older parents are better positioned to over-focus on this. Older parents are often grandparent age, yet have full-on responsibility for a middle schooler or high schooler.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Wonder if Walt Disney Ever…

Wonder if Walt Disney ever jogged?  Or ever went to the gym?  Or swam, walked or biked with any regularity?

I have never read anything that suggests Walt Disney was physically active.

This is one dimension where Walt Disney and jeff noel differ.

Yesterday, to celebrate turning 50, I ran the annual Watermelon 5k, in Winter Park.  There had to be close to 1,500 to 2,000 runners and walkers there.

The American Council of the Blind (ACB) had their annual convention in Orlando and its members participated! For the first time ever the ACB used a fun run/walk to raise funds and encourage their members to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.

Embrace an active and healthy lifestyle? Hmm….That’s one of the common sense things that everyone can embrace.

Here’s to your health:

Is Your Culture, By Default?

Whether you answer this personally or professionally, the answer should be the same.   And if you’re like I was before I became a professional speaker ten years ago, you aren’t sure what I’m talking about.  Right?

Generally speaking, things happen two ways, by design or by default.

In two hours, I’ll be running my first 5k run in several years.   I started running a decade ago.  After a few years, I needed a “carrot” to keep me motivated.  I ran my first 5k, ever.

In two hours, I’m running the very same 5k.  This is by design.  It’s an historic tradition that has incredible meaning in my life.  I could have picked any 5k to kick off my “comeback”, but I didn’t, by design.

Will you, or your organization, do things with purpose today, or will you drift aimlessly?  Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂
