When impossible meets drive and vision, Magic happens.

John Faurote contacted me via a LinkedIn message a couple years ago.

He basically said, “I don’t know how I can help you but I would like to be part of what you are doing.”

From the start i told him to create a business whereby he could offer people like me a structured process for speaking engagements.

I didn’t want him to build it for me because life is unpredictable.

I insisted he think long-term and BIG.

If he and i ever parted ways, for any reason, he would have and own an incredible asset that did not depend on my business (or anyone’s).

Man, did he ever exceed my expectations.

Looking forward to his proposals.

The thesis statement for how to transform your work

Peter Pan Parade float at Walt Disney World
All you need is faith, trust and Pixie Dust.

The thesis statement for how to transform your work.

Over-focus on the same things you used to under-focus on or ignore.

If you work for someone else, you will never be compensated for what you are worth.

Wait, sorry, correction – you are paid what you’re worth – a corporation has an obligation to control costs.

Labor costs are managed by having yearly caps for salary increases.

So your 2-3% increase is all you’re worth in the corporate machine.

Suggestion: start your own enterprise and you will find out quickly (give it at least three years) how much you are worth.

PS. The only way to be successful in a sea of people trying to do exactly what you are trying to do – starting a business – is to be different than everyone else.

You can try to be the best in the world (unlikely) or you can try to be different.

There are a million ways to stand out – you simply have to invent yours.

Over-focusing is the only way this is possible.

Emails out of nowhere generally are spam

Glacier National Park
September 27, 2017…taken from inside rental car. Amazing.

Emails out of nowhere generally are spam.

And then there are ones that bring opportunity.

Like the one yesterday, with the potential for a keynote speech – but it conflicts with one of 2018’s five Glacier writing trips.

By the way, this is the third consecutive Summer i’ve not taken speaking engagements from May 30 – September 30.

And there’s an exception to literally every rule, except death and taxes.

Back to the email, the upside is it’s in the middle of a 10-day trip and a three-day break in the middle is doable.

The client saw me two months ago and liked what he saw.

Now he’s interested in bringing it to his annual global conference in Atlanta.

The call is in 3.5 hours.

Wish me luck.

Draw Mickey Mouse?

Donald Duck giant egg
Disney characters are so prevalent in American life, we can’t fathom how many times we’ve seen them.

How many times have you seen Mickey Mouse?

Ok, now draw Mickey on your first sheet of paper.

Pathetic.

Seriously.

No sugar coating it.

Second chance…grab another sheet of paper…

i use a “Draw Mickey” activity i taught at Disney Institute to frame up how misguided organizational leaders are when they preach “thinking outside the box”.

Not gonna bore anyone with the details.

Just know the activity is pure genius.

Because humans are easily distracted…

Disney Blog link here for how to draw Disney Characters.

How many Orlando-based Disney Keynote Speakers can say this?

Disney icons
Disney trifecta.

As an army of one – a small business entrepreneur – you have responsibility for marketing yourself.

This is challenging to do and appear humble simultaneously.

Marketing’s primary job is to shine a spotlight on why their organization, their product, and their people are head-and-shoulders above the competition.

Blogging allows random opportunities (like this post) to play around with that challenge.

Here goes…

How many Orlando-based Disney Keynote Speakers can say this?

  • I never give the same speech twice
  • My keynote speeches are unlike anything audiences are used to
  • I worked at Disney for at least 30 years
  • I worked at Disney Institute for at least 15 years
  • I’ve been gone from Disney for less than five years
  • I live less than one mile from Walt Disney World
  • I’ve received both of Disney’s Lifetime Achievement Awards
  • I offer three significant discounts for Orlando Keynote Speeches
  • I’ve spoken to over one-million people
  • I’ve spoken to 2,000 different organizations
  • I retired as Disney Institute’s highest rated, most requested speaker

How many?

PS. The i’s are capitalized because it’s not me speaking, it’s other “Disney Keynote Speakers” asking themselves these questions.
