Teen and seniors — An ordinary moment yesterday.

Leadership decisions will rarely gain 100% agreement.

This is insidiously tricky.

When we want to please everyone we do not follow our instinct.

Yesterday my instinct said we need to get outside and walk.

But wait, our time with one of them is limited because he’s over in the adjacent nursing home.

Will we send the wrong message if we leave for an hour? Is it selfish? Is it right? Is it helpful?

When our health is something we are willing defend, we should never lose it.

Never, no matter the cost?

Dear Son, you need to read all of this ‘professional’ riff to get the point at the end.

Leadership 101: Your employees take their cue from your behaviors, not your verbal promises. If there was a hiring freeze and you couldn’t replace a single employee for an entire year, would you treat your people better?

Why wait?

Can gratitude help you overcome many challenges?

Do your employees believe you are grateful they show up?

Do your employees feel valued, respected, and appreciated?

Decent chance their answer and yours are very different.

Son, i’m busting my butt to have our answers match.

Apple Watch update 2015 — Time is the only thing everyone gets the same of each day.

If you hit the snooze button, if you do rolling stops at stop signs, if you drive too fast, these are valid indications you are not a great leader. You are probably a great manager, getting things done, even burning the midnight oil, and racing down the highway to increase your output.

But leadership starts with self.

Is the purpose of speeding to save three minutes? Go to bed three minutes earlier the night before. No?

Saving three seconds by doing rolling stops instead of full and complete stops? Wake up one minute earlier so you don’t have to shave 10-20 seconds off of your commute.

Hitting the snooze button?

Rushing out the door half awake, in a rush, disorganized – the three minute and 20 seconds you save on a typical 30- minute commute requires a level of worry and anxiety that could be spent in an entirely different way if you went to bed (or woke up) just five minutes earlier.

Think about it.

When i finally came to terms with my blind spot, i fixed these things.
