But what if this tactic fails?

Work hard? But how hard and for how long?

What if it doesn’t work?

Then what?

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This will prepare me for next year

Business leadership starts with personal victories (and failures).

Going to have to use oral pills to accomplish what monthly injections used to accomplish.

Springtime, and pollen season, in Orlando begins late January or early February. Today is February 5.

Will be able to resume weekly injections in March.

This will prepare me for next year.

This year however, i’ll have to rely on pills.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Beauty is being true to yourself, by the way.

Documenting critical milestones is the Disney Way

Disney Leadership Keynote Speaker
From a February 2015 audio visual check at Orlando Marriott World Center

This post went live yesterday. Wrote it 100 days prior. So the emotional excitement motive was cancelled out because of the three-plus month delay.

The motive was, and still is, to record a monumental milestone in a journey that was overwhelmingly destined to fail, but did’t.

It didn’t fail because i never quit even though i didn’t make a dime in over six years. The very first speaking engagement was a turning point. A catalytic milestone that will get lost and forgotten when success becomes the norm.

And now, today, 200 days later, we remember yet again how most success is arduous until it isn’t.

Much of an organization’s heritage is lost on future employees because it’s not perpetuated. Being intentional (like this post) is key to a culture by design.

Leadership, failure and risk taking

Personal Leadership 101:

  • We will never get better at anything we don’t start.
  • The quickest way to fail at anything is to do nothing.
  • When we take action odds favor failure. However, by taking action and failing more often, we increase our odds of succeeding.
  • The best way to be inspired is to simply do the things we say we’re going to do.
  • Dreams do not awaken without action.

We know these things.

Or do we?

If we were apprehended, would there be enough evidence for a conviction?

Work like you mean it: Four early “big ideas” that never took off

West Orange High School 9th grade center
He was less scared after seeing the campus.

Until you are out on your own as a solo entrepreneur, it’s easy to have a lifetime of delusional ideas about how business works. All the crazy ideas about spending money, priorities, brand building, marketing and sales – well, it’s all theory until you own it.

Dreaming is the easy part.

It’s almost pornographic how wild the business improvements or new ventures could go. All the “what if’s”.  So easy to go nuts.

Dreaming is the easy part.

Making stuff happen, nearly impossible.

Here are four early “bright ideas” that were like candles in the wind.

The coolest thing about mistakes is how much more meaningful – because of the real lessons learned – they are when you own the business.
