i was going to say no, twice

(No photo today)

i was going to say no, twice.

First, the timing was awful. Their date is in the middle of a window where i “refuse” to accept more business.

But i didn’t say no.

Second, the budget was way too low.

From not saying no (twice), they’ve raised their fee and our goal is to contract an additional keynote with advance payment as my incentive to lower the first price.

Our two weapons to defend ourselves from fear

Disney Keynote Speaker
Lavalier microphones: the more there are the harder it is to manage. Same with writing seven Disney Business books.

The thing about fear and doubt is that we always have two weapons to defend ourselves.

  1. Creativity.
  2. Change.

We make our plans for a future state.

But the future is unknown.

Please take the initiative to launch, learn, revise, repeat.

Try something.

Revise it as necessary.

Relaunch the new change.

Keep repeating until done.

(We are never done.)

Excited to try something i’ve never done before.

A chip off the old Walt Disney block.

Exercising different creativity because the pressure is off

Disney Institute keynote speakers
Last night’s writing location, less than one mile from WDW.

Couple of speaking inquiries in the past 72 hours.

As business grows, there’s less pressure and temptation to compromise corporate values – your organizational DNA.

Walt Disney and Steve Jobs inspire the heck out of me.

They were not everyone’s favorite leader.

Why?

They had insanely high standards and expectations.

Just another of many items a  startup CEO has to figure out.

Disney’s Continuous Improvement Process

Disney Stroller
You couldn’t take Disney Strollers on the Train and the Train was the quickest way to get to the back of the Park. Huge Guest dissatisfier.

Recognize and celebrate is often the most difficult (at least for me) because as soon as something is improved or solved, there is always an immediate need to solve or improve something else clamoring for attention.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Trust your people to find the solution

Disney Customer Service Keynote Speaker
The entire circle needs a creative solution so that it becomes easily readable on a mobile device.

Trust your people to find the solution.

Patience is a virtue.

Learn, and relearn, how to not micro-manage.
