Nolan Bushnell eight-minute video on creativity

Nolan Bushnell eight-minute video. There are many reasons why eight minutes is too long. None of them were good enough to stop me from watching.

A fire that isn’t continuously fed goes out.

Knowing, clearly where we are headed in life makes decision making easier.

Easier and easy are not the same, by the way.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Disney creativity experiment on LinkedIn yesterday

The text in this photo sets the context for today’s post…

Disney Creativity jeff noel
This was inspired after having taken the risk to do my first Guest PodCast appearance.

Disney creativity experiment on LinkedIn yesterday:

Sean called in less than a minute. We spoke for an hour. He asked for advice, so i gave him exactly what i did to launch my business in 2009:

1. Don’t quit your day job

  • Life will be hard whether you work two jobs or are desperately trying to be discovered in only one job
  • Having a steady income takes pressure off and buys you time to develop your dream

2. Write publicly

  • Don’t expect any readers (except family) and don’t try to be perfect
  • This refines what you truly believe in and how you want to say it

3. Live in gratitude

  • Try being unhappy when you’re grateful
  • You, like everyone else, are in a hell, coming out of a hell, or about to enter a hell know one knows about; it can’t be an excuse or crutch

4. Set a compelling deadline

  • Accelerates decisions
  • Eliminates excuses

Sean’s story humbled and inspired me.

Thinking creatively at Disney is like breathing – no thought whatsoever.

Brainstorming at Disney

LED old school alarm clock
Woke up in the middle of the night with a great idea. Snapped the photo to remind me of the “great” idea in the morning. i forgot it. It was a really good one too.

Brainstorming at Disney is focused on one thing above all others – volume. No judging or critiquing ideas while brainstorming. We can only pick from what we generate, so anything that slows or inhibits volume is prohibited.

Safety is way more than physical safety

Walt Disney World 30 year s of service pin

(photo: Today, September 27, 2014  marks 30 official years of service… a top ten most admired company in the world… this was the plan way back as a 25-year old ‘kid’)

The screen saver on the company issued iPhone 4s is a photo of his name tag and business card.

Why?

Because the phone requires a password after one minute.

No one would be able to access the phone’s contents to determine how to get it back to the owner it it was lost.

But the screen saver contains his land line phone number, address, and email, and also identifies the owner’s integrity and reputation.

If the screen saver was a Disney character or Family member photo, or a nature scene… the odds of reuniting the owner are drastically reduced.

Every Most business professional know this. Yet do nothing different.
