Social Media Director?

Met with a social media director of a large company recently yesterday.

He’s pushing 30.

I’m enjoying my 50’s.

He has a personal blog, and writes in it occasionally.

I write five daily blogs. Everyday.

He was curious what inspired me.

I mean, seriously, who writes five different ones, everyday?

Nobody.

So I told him.

He gets it now.

What about you?

No, really, what about you?

You’ll Never Succeed Doing This

It Could Happen
It Could Happen

You Never Succeed By Being A Follower.

There are probably exceptions to this rule, but let’s be real.  The exceptions are just that, exceptions.

Please don’t get me wrong, following is good. And safe. And mostly predictable.

And then there are the questions of when, where, what, how and why?

Whatever it is that is important, should be visualized and evaluated.

Then, there is that simple choice:  Follow or lead.

And in my case, this took a lifetime.

Sense of Urgency

Sense of Urgency?
Sense of Urgency?

Reading a book has the potential to alter the way we behave. This can be a gift. It can also be a curse.

The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch, was a gift.

Randy’s book helped me see the same things I always see, in a completely different light.

It was in the contemplative moments, inspired by his news, “You have about six months to live”, that really helped me see a blind spot.

A blind spot that most humans share.

Putting important things off because they are not urgent.

Health.  Family.  Spirit.  Life.  Legacy.

What does this have to do with leadership?

Do I really have to explain it?  Because if I do, it worries me that you still might not get it.

You will eventually, but what if someone disconnects your phone?

Wishing You The Best

We Can Do Great Things
We Can Do Great Things

It is helpful to remember the big picture, isn’t it?

Do you have creative and effective ways to remember the big picture?  I mean everyday. Do you?

Currently, writing five daily blogs has helped me make a dramatic leap in the way I perceive excellence and act on excellence.

The dramatic leap didn’t happen a year ago when I was writing single digit monthly blog posts – November 2008.

It didn’t happen when I wrote nearly 20 monthly blog posts – December 2008.

And it didn’t happen in the first two months of this year, when I wrote even fewer.

But something magical happened in March, ten months ago.

I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow.  Wishing you the best day of your life -today!  Carpe diem.
