The key to making change that matters

All in means all in. Not being all in means exactly that, not all in. Obvious, challenging, and yet the key to it all.

What stifles making change that matters?

A busy schedule.

A lack of balance between the big categories.

Time and competing priorities create the illusion that organizational and personal vibrancy are impossible.

Balancing leaders, employees, customers, reputation, and improvement yields organizational vibrancy.

Balancing mind, body, spirit, work, and home facilitates personal vibrancy.

At the DNA level what makes change happen and last?

Commitment.

Anything less is not enough

Actual comment on emailed invoice.

Commitment means being all in.

Anything less is not enough.

If you are not all in, you are not all in.

You cannot be mostly all in.

Measure versus matter

Turned on Grammarly at the tail end of the tally period. For a whole week only 7 words were recorded. This result is better than 14% of other Grammarly users.

Not everything that can be measured matters.

Not everything that matters can be measured.

Because of my insider position, since 1999, in the improvement industry, it is easy to testify about the prevailing, perverse, and utterly misleading (read lying) information that gurus and wanna-be’s peddle to make a living.

Even at Disney Institute, the insider joke was and still is, “Never let a good story get in the way of the truth.”

By the way, i taught at Disney Institute from 1999-2014. That’s a heck of a run.

i made it, and continue to make it, my personal mission to never let a false or misleading story to ever be told. Ever. For any reason. Period.

Zealot?

Perhaps.

If the shoe fits.

DREAM was a Cast Member idea

DREAM was a Cast Member idea.

DREAM = Disney Resort Experiences Are Magic.

Gracious Hospitality became a Disney Resort Operations program in the late 1980’s that was pre-Disney Decade (1990) and pre-Performance Excellence (1993).

One of my proprietary assets is my organizational memory.

This is the ability to recall the longterm historical pros and cons from personal experience, not hearsay or books.

Be the first?

The Many Glacier Valley. George Grinnell is reputed to be the first white man to visit what is now called Grinnell Glacier.

Be the first?

What does this mean?

You can define it any way you want.

Does it matter to be the first?

Lots of research touting the benefits of being first to market. You’re probably familiar.

Not as much chatter about becoming a category.

Life is about choices.

Choices birth consequences and/or opportunities. Opportunities birth a price that must be paid.

The price to be paid then leads us back to the beginning of the cycle – a choice must be made – to pay or walk away.
