Road trip to North America’s most extraordinary beachfront lifestyle

email from The Breakers, Palm Beach, Florida
Middle paragraph, 1st sentence…

Road trip in a few hours. A 2.5 hour drive from Walt Disney World Resort. Back home tomorrow after a 60-minute keynote.

Writing daily, and extensively, and tirelessly, helps a professional speaker in a way that only those that do the same can understand.

Sound boastful?

Why?

It’s merely a statement of massive effort to bring art to the audience. Art that has a much greater propensity to transform than much less prepared, going-through-the-motions-because-I-am-busy presentation ever will.

In reality, leader to subordinate is equivalent to parent/child

silly book titles
Should we lecture (tell) about why or facilitate the discovery of why?

Parent to child conversation often feels like lecture to the child. Thirteen year olds aren’t thrilled with parental lectures.

What to do?

Stop lecturing.

How?

Adult learners, from the seasoned CEO to the brand new inexperienced, front-line employee, thrive in a learning environment that stimulates, not bores.

Facilitating, which is engaging, is the key, not lecturing, which is boring.

The 13-year old commented that our conversation was actually interesting and he asked me to keep going.

In reality, leader to subordinate is equivalent to parent/child. Think about it. Then use it to become a better parent leader.

Would you be okay with a hand-me-down smart phone?

Apple iPhone 5s invoice
Notice the order date (ordered it the minute it went on sale (12:01am PST)

iPhone 5s in box
Removing the box lid almost takes your breath away because the art is so stunning

Friendly reminder: Life happens one moment at a time. When we are fully engaged in it (and write about it) we learn so much more about what it takes to be excellent and not just hope for excellence).

So the iPhone 5s arrived from China yesterday. This means Chapin gets the hand-me-down iPhone 5.

This required going to the ATT store to get a new sim card and then returning home to restore the 5 from his latest iTunes backup.

It was in the trip home from ATT that magic happened.

The revelation that the same world class leadership and facilitation methods used professionally with seasoned CEO’s all the way to the entry-level brand new employees could be (and should be) used with a 13-year old.

Will anyone complain if we make things easier to understand?

Quote about insight
Insight allows you to see things that others may miss (Physician’s x-ray lab wall)

No one will complain if the teacher makes things easier to understand. Not the audience anyway.

But folks that think more is more, folks that are much less prone to refining, and folks that have incredible disparity between what they teach and what they do in real life – they will be the first to complain of an excellent teacher’s methods.

And so it goes.

If you’d like to go to my LinkedIn profile and endorse ‘simplicity’ that would be swell. It’s right there next to the other two skills listed: determination and humility.

Rather than medicating ourselves with the shortcomings of others

Florida Fall clouds
Letting things go becomes easier with practice (and can be mastered over time)

Nearly everyone we observe (including ourselves) sees everyone else’s shortcomings. And they say, so-and-so just needs to do this or do that.

And they think so-and-so should just use common sense.

Was thinking, if common sense was the answer, then wouldn’t we all be positive, fit, peaceful, fulfilled, finically secure, a model employee or leader, organized, etc?

The beauty about overmanaging our personal responsibility is that we become very well rounded and successful at delivering balanced life results.

And when this happens, we feel so good about ourselves (even with our many shortcomings) because of the harmonious alignment of our energy (and results).

Something magical happens. We no longer worry about what others do or don’t do.

Don’t get me wrong, we are fully aware of our surroundings, but we focus our energy on self-improvement rather than medicating ourselves with the shortcomings of others.
