Aging is cool, work

if disney ran your life podcast
Hard to imagine this podcast (If Disney Ran Your Life) was never anything i wanted to do. Ever! i told Jody Maberry (the host)\ (and host to 600+ episodes of Lee Cockerell’s “Creating Magic” podcast) that i wasn’t interested. At all. Told Jody that for three years. Why 3 years? Because we hit it off and became Glacier National Park kin. Then i caved and we started recording. Our first “official episode” was at the top of the Kuwait Towers. i was there to do a TEDx Talk. i paid Jody’s way to join me. It was extraordinary.
If Disney Ran Your Life Podcast in Kuwait
i invited Jody along with one goal – to record Episode one of Season 3 – the official launch of If Disney Ran Your Life podcast. We had lunch at the top and recorded from the top. What are the odds? Zero!!!!

Aging.

Advantage or disadvantage?

Aging is cool if you have a great CEO.

If you don’t have a great CEO, you’re doomed.

You know about life’s various wakeup calls.

What i just wrote may be a small wake-up call.

Painful in acknowledging it.

But true, for context.

You reap what you sow.

i’ve always loved being a gardener, even when i knew very little about gardening.

Not gonna lie, for a decent amount of years (at least the past 20), i feel like a master gardener.

Bloom where you’re planted.

Some gardener-personal leadership context…

Plants need three things to thrive.

  1. The right soil.
  2. The right amount of light.
  3. The right amount of water.

Ever seen a cactus near the Amazon river?

Ever seen a palm tree in the desert. (An oasis doesn’t count, which actually proves the 3 things plants need).

Ps. Did i mention we are seven days from wheels up to Paris?

Blogging’s hidden blessing, work

Blogging question
The answer is obvious if it’s not already obvious.
the number 5 in yellow squares on a floor
Five-a-day, everyday, without missing a day, since April Fools Day, 2009. What a blessing.

Dear Son, to me, blogging’s hidden blessing is its love for the writer.

Blogging grants me the blessing of sharing what i want, when i want, in the way i want. Blogging allows me to do this prolifically too.

It’s free, except for an annual website hosting plan and two hours of your day, everyday.

One day it will, work

Magic Kingdom Barber Shop
i always talk about the balance between pixie dust and reality. Reality is quite harsh sometimes.

Repetition is the mother of all learning.

Mind, body, spirit, work, home…

One day will be the last.

True north includes never taking our infinite blessings for granted

Living in constant gratitude, to me, is the secret to happiness.

i have found it impossible to be unhappy when i am grateful.

When you hear me say happy present moment, it’s the fruit from being grateful and present and aware.

Personal leadership has many methods and messages.

i recommend mind, body, spirit, work, and home as life’s five big choices. You can think of those five as a team working together.

When all five are contributing well, vibrancy is the result.

When one of the five isn’t contributing well, vibrancy is elusive.

When two of the five aren’t contributing well, life is hard.

Yet for most of society, this is normal. So a ‘hard life’ becomes an acceptable standard.

You know where true north is.

And if tomorrow never comes, i have no regrets in wishing i had tried harder or sooner to show you.

The thing about everything, work

Disney Top Corporate Trainers
It’s simple. i retired from Disney in 2014 to fulfill a purpose bigger than Disney. Note the new Cast Member ID card middle-right: RETIREE. And as i write this it’s 2026 and i’ve finally retired a second time, December 31, 2025.

The thing about everything is that everything takes longer than you plan.

Noteworthy, there’s an exception to nearly every rule.

Exceptions are rare.

i planned on not working.

Most American’s typically think age 65 is the goal line.

Seems fair and reasonable.

Went a bit past 65, yet feel good about taking a little longer.

Paperwork playoffs, work

Consulting framework
A sheet of paper, three hand-drawn lines (6 boxes) and then brainstorm the DNA of past, present, future. The future isn’t listed on this sheet (yet).

In personal leadership, it matters little to walk to do the preaching, if not the walking is the preaching.

As paid work has instantly become a low-to-no priority big life choice, letting go is only natural.

However from my observations, most retirees procrastinate.

As i’ve always said, waiting and doing nothing are the twin siblings of self-destruction.

Just because i have room to continue storing all this ‘junk’, doesn’t mean it’s smart to let it sit. And then after i die, someone else has to go through it or ‘bulldoze’ it.
