Dear Son, Part 4 of 5

Try to become the very best at whatever it is you do…

Dear son, your contribution to society will be a long journey of self-discovery. Or maybe not. Don’t worry, most people don’t know what they want to be when they grow up.

There will be phases and cycles in your career journey. Promotions. Setbacks. Glorious triumph. And unfair treatment.

Take the good with the bad, learn from both. Continuously work to improve yourself. Society will pay you back with a salary. For example, 3 public speaking jobs:

  1. Jungle Cruise Skipper = less than $100 per day
  2. Corporate Professional Speaker = $100’s per day
  3. Self Employed Entrepreneurial Speaker = $1,000’s per day

Work For Money?

jungle jeff, Daily reflections on Excellence, has an overarching theme.  Money.

As I teach our son about life’s four big quadrants, jungle jeff’s blog is focused on only one.  Money.

Money is not the root of all evil. It is the love of money that is the root.

Whatever you believe, I’m teaching our son that every human should contribute to society in some way.  In return, society pays you with money, generally speaking.

With money, you can buy food, shelter, insurance, transportation, and even use money to help others.

And one more thing I’m trying to teach him, “He is rich who owes nothing.” — Hungarian Proverb

Money Quadrant

Money Quadrant.  It’s one of the big four.

Big four?  Yep.

Life has four quadrants.  Money is one of them.

Teaching our son to be mindful of the choices he makes because choices frame our contribution to society.

Our contribution to society frames our paycheck.

Our paycheck frames up a lot of other things.  Money quadrant.  Ya with me?

Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂
