Not until then will any of us (ever) make dramatic leaps in our leadership

Found this speaker’s talk on becoming a better writer very interesting. For a great writer, she is also a very good speaker. And when Beth began talking about running – like a boss – was compelled to write this post….

When was the last time we thought about leadership everyday for a whole week (or month, or year)?

And by think about it, let’s be clear and say this:

  • Our responsibility to get better at it
  • Our relative effectiveness, if we could measure it
  • Our preoccupation with how important it is
  • Our preoccupation with how important our every move is
  • Coaching, counseling, teaching others (everyday, remember)

When was a week like that?

When was a month like that?

When was a year like that?

Every dang day.

Got it.

Not until then will any of us (ever) make dramatic leaps in our leadership.

Great leaders don’t

Disney Cast only door
How do you feel when your boss calls you and says, “Can you come see me in my office?”

Great leaders tend to do things that matter. Good leaders don’t.

Trouble is, much of what matters can’t be measured and much of what can be measured doesn’t matter – not in the hearts of those we lead anyway.

Employees are starving to know their leadership team thinks the world of them.

Good leaders assume they know. Great leaders don’t.

Should we stay or should we go?

digital quote
Old school is not funny, it’s sad.

In the same way that we used to never be able to have our mobile devices powered on during take-off and landing, so too will many other notions fall.

A great leader is an early adopter.

A good leader waits.

The difference, is, well, very different in creating a team of (leaders) people filled with creativity and innovation or (followers) people filled with a wait and see work ethic.
