i should have known better.
Everything i envisioned on this trip, including the vision for the ultimate travel experience was crushed.
Disproportionate time was spent trying to solve for what seemed like a bad dream.
Nothing worked.
And so it goes with air travel.

Speaking of failing to succeed…
Are you a purple cow?
No?
Then why should anyone pay attention to you?
The aspiring Disney animator jumped at the chance to speak with me (for free).
Our conversation was yesterday while walking to the gym.
One of the first things he shared was a story of him dragging his mom to the wall he had drawn on, “Look mommy, it says I am an animator.”
From that, later in our conversation, i suggested that maybe what makes him a purple cow is his ability to pretend and (possibly) to get others to pretend.
He was astonished and inspired.

How patient and how often?
Long and draining travel days set you up for an unplanned final exam.
Patience is pass-fail.
Anything less than being patient is not patient (fail).

A Disney Keynote Speaker career-defining moment is when you are intuitive enough to notice (and act on) what no one else is noticing (and acting on).
Climb the ladder.
How can you not?
Well…
If you pause long enough to keenly observe the obvious, you’ll notice something that is either invisible or, visible and ignored.
People in the levels above you – look closely.
Watch them over the months and years.
Are they filled with joy at what they do for a living?
Look at the Disney Leaders at every level above you.
Are they joyful?
This is not a dig.
This is an incredible insight.
An insight into a massive, world-class organization.
Not intending to ruin any Magic for anyone.
Chapin, be careful. There is literally no organization in the world that is immune from this….
What i realized was that there is no amount of (extra) money that would be worth more than the (abundant) joy i get from being a Disney Keynote Speaker.

Conventional wisdom says yes.
There’s a time and a place for conventional wisdom.
And there’s a time and a place to discover new territory.
Jody Maberry hosts Lee Cockerell’s and, as of a few days ago, Dan Cockerell’s podcast.
Jody was my Guest in Glacier National Park two weeks ago.
It was our first time meeting face to face.
We almost slept in the same bed the night we met.
i’ll leave that story for a potential podcast (with Jody hopefully).
