Clutter kills our career passion

Disney ESPN Sports complex
We had a moment when we realized we were driving through Disney World to go to our High School Homecoming Game, also at Disney.

Clutter kills our career passion.

Are you a victim?

Why do i ask?

The final 15 of my 30 years at Disney were spent speaking to over one-million people global through Disney Institute. One-third of the 2,000 clients i personally interfaced with were in Healthcare.

And now as an entrepreneur, the percentage is even higher. i love healthcare. The reasons (which no one cares about) are varied, many, and inspiring.

Here’s what i saw in a dream recently:

Can we put love back into medicine?

Is the goal of healthcare to make money or to extend the healing ministry of “Love”?

The clutter (competing priorities, not fixing poor leadership, not being intentional about everything) in the workplace keeps great organizations from caring for their culture. And once the culture is diseased, there’s little anyone can do.

However, there is a last resort, and it comes, ironically, with a price – call or text me (407-538-4341).

Career regret is a rite of passage

Candy counter
Easy choice.

Vegetable counter
Tough choice.

There are too many things that need-to-be-done to ever get to the want-to-get-done pile.

Our life inside the corporate machine consumes our time. We become polished at remaining calm under the constant work pressure. This unrelenting pressure ultimately beats the dreamer out of us.

Gone are our youthful ideals about how to thrive and contribute to work that matters.

And along this well-worn path, we sacrifice regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate rest – all in the name of climbing the ladder.

i keep telling myself to think like these four people

Disney's Jungle Cruise
My very first role at Walt Disney World was as ‘jungle jeff’ in 1982.

i keep telling myself to think like these four people:

  1. Mother Teresa
  2. Walt Disney
  3. Jesus
  4. Steve Jobs

These are big shoes to fill.

What are the limits that i have?

Only those i convince myself of.

Right?

Yes.

But, but.

You don’t have to say a word, but know that i know you know this for yourself as well.

It’s downright frightening what our potential is.

Right?

Well of course you are

Gapingvoid art
Metaphorically speaking, you need to want change as much as you want your next breath. From Gapingvoid Art.

You and your organization have major challenges.

You do not want an expensive solution.

Nothing you’ve tried so far has stuck.

You may have become numb to the drag of your survival and reaction mode.

Your organizational culture is you greatest ally or your biggest roadblock.

Right now and for the foreseeable future (and maybe forever), it’s a roadblock.

You think you need to fix your leadership.

You think you need to fix your customer service delivery.

There’s only one person who will insist you rethink those two obvious categories, plus the three other categories everyone ignores.

  1. Your pain will get worse before it will get better.
  2. Or, your pain will get worse and it will never get better (and never stay better).

These are your only two options.

Could you thrive living on the fringe?

Could you become the best in your category, or, could you become so amazing you create a new category – a category of one?

There’s no one else in the marketplace that will approach common cultural dysfunction issues with the same business karma.

i do not fail.

i can not do the work for you.

You will not succeed without me.

You have to be willing to be Cortes.

No guts, no glory.

Two of the greatest professional comfort foods

Film crew at Epcot
Film crew last night at Epcot. Make your own movie if you want.

Stop the madness of waiting to be picked.

Pick yourself.

Oh wait, you don’t know how to do that.

Why?

Because no one does until they figure it out. And they may never figure it out.

Why?

Because excuses and regrets make comforting conversation starters – conversations we repeatedly have with ourselves. Like a pair of well worn jeans. Comfort.
