Don’t Be

Do Not, Under Any Circumstances
Do Not, Under Any Circumstances

Yesterday was an awesome day.

How was yours?

Everyday should be an awesome day, even the ones that pin us down and make it difficult to breath.

Why?

Because that’s the way life works.

Pretending it doesn’t is foolish.

Don’t be an educated fool.

Four Things

Guard Against Boring Teachers
Guard Against Boring Teachers

Who doesn’t like to learn new, cool, helpful stuff?

Do you have to, or get to, teach others?  You know, teaching other adults, co-workers, children, parents, your boss, etc.

You most likely never think of how effective you are when you teach. So here’s a test.

When a great teacher teaches you, they are aiming for four criteria, to be effective.  Bob Pike, the Walt Disney of Training, developed four questions. “Did you?”:

  1. Like it
  2. Learn it
  3. Use it
  4. Make a difference

Then Don Kirkpatrick comes along and adds to this with his four.  “Was there?”

  1. Reaction
  2. Learning
  3. Behavior
  4. Results

No matter how you slice it as a leader, the more you know and the simpler you keep it, well, you decide.

Abby Sunderland, What’s Impossible?

Not Abby's Boat
Not Abby's Boat

Sailing around the world, solo, is a daring adventure.

To do it as a sixteen female is a whole other level of impossible.

Well, it’s been done before. And it was in the process of being done again, until yesterday.

Abby Sunderland, 16, and her boat, Wild Eyes, have a story to tell – and a website and blog to tell it. Reading about it, to me, is simply like putting another log on the fire.

How’s your fire?

We All Want The Big 3

Life: Watch it, March in it, or Lead it?
Life: Watch it, March in it, or Lead it?

Stumbled upon an RSA Animate video featuring Dan Pink. Have you heard of this guy? Have you seen his stuff on You Tube?

It blew my mind yesterday. The three things I wrote down from the ten minute video? The three things we all want, and the three things most organizational leadership structure neglects:

  1. Autonomy – shedding status quo
  2. Mastery – our urge to get better
  3. Purpose – deep desire to make a difference

Posted three times here at jungle jeff yesterday. This may not be today’s final post either. I hope you feel energized today. It’s your responsibility.
