Invest time in earning repetitive attention or loyal business?

Best LinkedIn profile summary
Arguably the best LinkedIn profile summary i’ve ever seen, from yesterday.

Invest time in earning repetitive attention or loyal business?

Repetitive attention usually is from potential customers seeking “free”.

Loyal customers purchase from you and will purchase from you again, if you offer something remarkable in exchange for their money.

Yes, there’s a body of evidence saying you should give away your best stuff for free – to expose people to your work.

May i suggest inside-the-box-thinking is the key to understanding a compelling reason to .think .differently

i recently asked someone who touts listening to podcasts and believes i’m making a mistake by not having one.

So i asked him, “How much money have you spent on your favorite podcaster’s products?”

“None.”

i rest my case.

You should give a speech to the students about that

The International Baccalaureate (IB) High School diploma is an option at our school.

It virtually guarantees top–shelf credibility and predictive success no matter what University Admissions Director reads your college application.

Students are immersed in above average rigor and group requirements, and are therefore prepared for the same thing in higher education – it’s not a shock to their lifestyle.

On the drive home from school last night, i reminded our son that doing these things meets expectations, but it’s the little things, like thanking a teacher after class for a great insight, that exceed expectations.

There are no courses (except perhaps Disney Institute) focusing on exceeding expectations.

The High School sophomore said, “You should give a speech to the students about that.”

(Dear son, thank you for paying me a compliment, and encouraging me.)

i’m all for change, but

Ran into a Disney Institute colleague yesterday. Friends can see their friend’s blind spots easily, and our friends easily see ours. Easily.

i’m all for change, and we need to change, but you need to go first.

This is kinda Goofy

First thing i ask, “Is Disney ok with this image?”

Goofy made of Peeps
While fun and creative, it is not officially Disney.

We voted last week knowing we’d be arriving home too late to vote yesterday. Catching an hour or so of last night’s early election coverage on TV, i went to bed wondering who our President would be.

This morning’s news was surprising.

Told our son (16) no matter who becomes President, we need to trust the highest elected official will operate in our Nation’s best interests. Period.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Bill Gates and jeff noel?

Not to contradict Bill Gates, i say more important than innovation is this insidiously under-focused on thing called vision – your picture of the future that is better than now, much better.

There are four objectives Bill Gates thinks we should prioritize. He sees the future looking much better than now, if we do these:

  1. Provide everyone on earth with affordable energy without contributing to climate change.
  2. Develop a vaccine for HIV and a cure for neurodegenerative diseases.
  3. Protect the world from future health epidemics, which might be more infectious than Ebola and more deadly than Zika.
  4. Give every student and teacher new tools so all students get a world-class education.

Dream big. Get there. Stay there. Repeat.
