One day it will, work

Magic Kingdom Barber Shop
i always talk about the balance between pixie dust and reality. Reality is quite harsh sometimes.

Repetition is the mother of all learning.

Mind, body, spirit, work, home…

One day will be the last.

True north includes never taking our infinite blessings for granted

Living in constant gratitude, to me, is the secret to happiness.

i have found it impossible to be unhappy when i am grateful.

When you hear me say happy present moment, it’s the fruit from being grateful and present and aware.

Personal leadership has many methods and messages.

i recommend mind, body, spirit, work, and home as life’s five big choices. You can think of those five as a team working together.

When all five are contributing well, vibrancy is the result.

When one of the five isn’t contributing well, vibrancy is elusive.

When two of the five aren’t contributing well, life is hard.

Yet for most of society, this is normal. So a ‘hard life’ becomes an acceptable standard.

You know where true north is.

And if tomorrow never comes, i have no regrets in wishing i had tried harder or sooner to show you.

Let’s make “SYDK” a category, work

rustic cabin and people playing cards
That remarkable time when Sperry Chalet, University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), a special card game called Dominion, and our Son happened simultaneously.

Funny how stress can make obvious, important things invisible.

My stress?

First, i need to re-label the topic.

Instead of stress, i’m using opportunity and challenge interchangeably.

My current and biggest opportunity is learning how to lean into the discomfort of life-stage changes. And to thrive in the change.

Looking on all five blogs what is obvious was invisible to me until 10 minutes ago.

All five blogs have “Quotes” as the most used category.

All five blogs have “Dear Son” as the second-most used category.

In hindsight, it’s a blinding flash of the obvious.

Note: What is also invisible is that “Quotes” and “Dear Son” are wonderfully codependent. Hadn’t recognized that until just now. Cool.

Chapin’s first Christmas as a college student. Life is a blur. Enjoy that. Having Chapin along for our life-ride has been icing on the cake. So insanely lucky.

Dear Son,

Shit you didn’t know…

How could you?

You were just a kid.

What you didn’t know is…

How being your dad inspired and guided everything i did (and why i did it)…

Told you High School freshman year you had to get involved in some after school activity. Never told you what it needed to be other than it was with a group of others that met daily after school.

You didn’t during first semester. And i didn’t make you.

But i insisted you do it second semester.

Further, i reminded you that you could pick anything you wanted.

And i also revealed that if you didn’t pick, i would pick for you.

And i would pick track and field.

Why?

Not because i wanted you to become a runner.

But because track and field offered many different choices.

You picked Shot Put.

Which i thought was a brilliant choice.

Coach Sharrod Williams talked you into cross-country to start your sophomore year.

Never saw that coming.

You changed me

Dear Son, i didn’t change you, you changed me.

Never saw that coming.

Thank you.

i’d probably be a wreck right now if it wasn’t for your birth.

Ps. Hat tip to Cheryl.

Better than me at work

You will look back at any future time and realize you wished you had started today.

Slow and steady is better than still and stagnant. A lifetime journey is taken one step at a time.
