Secret hack to improve your work

The secret hack to improving your work?

The way to get better is to get better at getting better.

Never considered myself a storyteller. In fact i considered myself the opposite, a poor storyteller. Poor storytellers are best when they are silent.

One day, with Leslie Bays-Baker in a private, nine-executive multi-day engagement, i told the closing story and tied the story’s point to the thesis statement for the class’s entire four days.

After the group graduated and left the classroom on day four, Leslie shared, “I loved your personal story and how you connected it back to the content and the audience.”

Leslie’s feedback changed the course of my speaking career because for the first time, it felt as if i was a purposeful storyteller.

Have never looked backed from that defining moment.

Blogging every morning for 11 years was birthed out of the desire to become a better storyteller, and perhaps some day to become a master storyteller.

Why?

To dream, create, and inspire.

Worth noting

No divas, no heros, all teamwork for a common goal.

Worth noting these things that don’t fit on a simple one-page business contract:

  • 9-hour days include one-hour lunch and one-hour admin time
  • a scribe is welcome in every meeting, i take notes only for me
  • you will schedule rooms, times, people, scribe, flip charts, notepads, pens, and any other admin activities you see fit
  • creative and fun collaboration between your entire organization and me is crucial to progress
  • an expectations document needs to be drafted and approved on both sides, before work begins…this is my contribution to it,
  • new structure and processes for BTL 2.0 are required
  • communication expectations between you and me are perhaps key
  • bonus eligibility (paid January 2021) up to 100% of original contract fee

Solving for 4 key issues

Three-city trip coming soon. March 20 actually changes to March 19.

Solving for 4 key speaking issues:

  1. What subject is he famous for?
  2. What does he look like on stage?
  3. Isn’t he too expensive?
  4. Where is his book?

Here’s how:

  1. Customer Service (build off of TED Talk)
  2. TED is too long, insert 30-second sizzles
  3. 2020 is the year of exposure vs revenue
  4. Go the Extra Inch is first Disney business book to release

It was amazing

Magic happens when you live admirably. Just yesterday we (Disney) repeated as the 4th most admired company in the world according to Fortune.

It was amazing.

At least three times my client said that.

In roughly five minutes between other people coming in and out of the conversation as the session concluded.

Later a text:

The team keeps talking about the presentation and YOU!!

To which i text back:

Wait, what? i’m just a messenger. Walt’s genius deserves the credit for the architecture. PS. Thank you.

Disney Jesus

Disney Jesus? No. Not even close.
Disney Jesus? Which one? Neither. Nice try.
Are you sure? Those eyes look heavenly.
Surely not the Disney Jesus.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.
Disney Jesus? Probably. i heard (s)he rides a bike.

Disney Jesus?

What?

Jesus roamed the earth with only the clothes on his back.

He possessed wisdom for all ages.

No books, no notes, no iPhone.

In a dream, i envision me being like a Disney Jesus – carrying nothing more than the clothes on my back and an iPhone.

Preaching the Gospel according to Walt.

And a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
