Microphone and reality

Four days of dedicated effort to transform my email folders. Ran into a couple glitches.

The goal was this. One page for everything. No scrolling. By the way, the first six folders are Apple auto-installed. Drafts folder contains inspirational emails for some clients.

Clicking on HOME’s BIG 5, still all on one page. There are a bunch more folders within each main folder (pictured here). The reduction is remarkable and it lightens my mental and emotional daily lifting.

Having a microphone and having an audience are too astonishingly different things.

Here’s what i mean…

You post on LinkedIn. It could be remarkable. But if no one’s paying attention, it doesn’t matter.

There have been worse times

  • Head of picking up trash.
  • Head of exceeding customer expectations.
  • Head of creativity and innovation.

Humans crave purpose.

Give them a variety so they don’t get bored.

Contribute what you want to contribute.

To each their own. 

Don’t worry about what others think about what and how you contribute.

They subconsciously do worry about what you contribute. Why? Because if you are passionate, “you might perform better than them” and lessen their chances for recognition.

And if you get the courage to contribute as a business owner, and do the hard work to become sustainable, you can contribute any way your artistry compels you to.

Most people know of this. i knew of it.

But i never understood it until i experienced it. No theory, only relentless reps.

Now, as a 15-year business owner, i know in a way few know.

Funny (more like weird) looking back at how naive i was.

Work is worship

Couple nights ago at the Italian restaurant with our concert-going friends, our server shared an insight.

She said, “Work is worship“.

Being ever curious, i asked her to unpack it.

She started by saying in India where she is from, work is considered worship. She said work provides you the opportunity to provide for yourself and your family. She finished by saying something to this effect: We ‘worship’ this blessing.

i see it the same and differently…

What i see differently is when i am speaking and advising others through my work, i am blessing them with insight, wisdom, and most importantly practical, lifelong confirmation that my insights and wisdom are the best available for the outcomes i (and they) desire.

Learning’s reminder

Learning creates confidence. However, learning initially exposes how much we didn’t know (but thought we did).

Learning reminds us to lean into our discomfort with being incompetent.

Bonus: Mediocre and poor are synonymous. You’re in charge of your learning and development and a half baked attempt equals the same thing as a poor attempt.
