Make ‘em like you mean it

two retired disney leaders
Two retired Disney leaders. Lisa and jeff. We met at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Front Desk in 1985. Today’s photo is 2025. Lisa just retired after 46 years of Disney Service. She arrived late, after the Disney Leadership gathering thinned out. In fact, Cheryl and i left after this photo. i asked for her mobile because i don’t have it. Took this photo so i could text her my mobile.

Can’t recall why i took this photo.

The beautiful reward that mistakes give us is a lesson we cannot get in any other way.

What pain at work

recycling website
When i typed my (personally owned) URL that had to do with our homeowners association, this is where visitors get redirected because…
post it note handwritten note
DNS means Domain Name Server.
GoDaddy admin screen
Yesterday’s experience was the nudge i needed to delete my GoDaddy Legacy (2008) account and the four domain names and their associated URL’s.

There’s pain in negative work experiences, disappointments, and unproductive work sacrifices.

Pain teaches us.

The more pain we experience, the more education we get.

We can learn which pain is an investment and which pain is bankruptcy.

Investment pain is pain we welcome because we know believe it leads somewhere good. Perfect example is the 2008 decision to start my own business so that in 2014 (after 30 years at Disney) i could retire from Disney and go out on my own. Doing the same thing i did at Disney Institute, but being in charge of everything, especially my travel schedule.

2024’s final week, work

two boys with Mickey Mouse at dining experience
Mickey and Minnie remind me of jeff and Cheryl. Always trying to create happiness.

When you strike out on your own, you either own your company or your company owns you.

Even when you don’t strike out on your own, you must face the ownership conundrum. Who owns you?

Happy winter 2024, work

Winter began 24 hours ago. Let’s think about how we traditionally tee up our winters…

Ever think of yourself as a professional artist?

If yes, why?

If no, why?

Let’s assume a few things:

  1. Artists are different than the others who do the same thing
  2. Artists offer something few others (if anyone) offers
  3. Artists gravitate to being “better”
  4. An artist’s best chance is to be different rather than better

We become what we think about.

Intentionally or unintentionally.

Can you imagine the difference between the two approaches?
