Holy cow this is amazing

Inspiring Facebook update

Do you follow someone with a title or someone with courage?

The weirdest thing yesterday was removing the Disney Institute engagements from the Apple personal calendar for November, December and January.

Weirder still is entering new engagements in their place for Mid Life Celebration.

Holy cow this is amazing.

Computers often leave you with simple, clear choices

(photo: Yesterday… big events require lots of support.)

How do we thrive while navigating scary once-in-a-lifetime milestones?

There is a process for everything.

And when a process is brand new to you, you do the very best you can to follow it. Even if you are not crystal clear.

So…

The only person at work who knows he’s retiring is his boss.

He gave 25 days notice on October 7 (two days ago).

The career end date was driven by a computer generated benefits commencement date.

November 1, 2014 is the first official, legitimate, system supported opportunity.

He took it.

October 7, 2014 he told his boss

(photo: It wasn’t until Sunday night, 10:34pm on October 6, 2014 that the official digital signature was applied)

October 7, 2014 he emailed his boss at 6:29am checking on availability for a brief phone call – they both lead busy lives and rarely see each other.

At 7:54am they spoke and he told his boss (as the Delta gate agents used the PA to begin the boarding process):

Official retirement begins November 1, 2014. Last official day at Disney is Friday, October 31, 2014.

The obvious question, “Are you sure?”, was asked and the not so obvious answer was stated, “Yes.”

Calling the call center is at the top of our joy list, right?

(photo: Mid Life Celebration was inspired in 1979 by a woman sitting on a chair similar to this one)

Refreshing isn’t it? When we stumble upon remarkably helpful call center support.

The special benefits advisors have been extraordinarily helpful. And with each call another layer of personal growth and understanding happens for the caller.

We travel down roads in life we’ve never been down before. We’ve probably seen the road (various life events) on a map, but never had the opportunity to drive on it.

Until the time comes. Usually unpredictably.

These life events are potentially scary because they are big ones.

But there’s always a chance our fear was unfounded.

Come to find out, the drive can be actually much better than we expect.

Guessing it’s because we reap what we sow.

All in preparation to sow even more.

To help more people, in better ways, more often.

Takes guts?

The executive consultant said of the many sessions he’s seen around the Country, the one yesterday after lunch was the very best… “by far”.

Knowing your wheelhouse and staying focused on it is elusive to many of us, because the traditional expectations are to “do it all”.

Designing your personal organizational structure – priorities and processes – is no different than what we must do at work.

Very simply, we must ensure organizational structure is architected for world class results.

Rethink?

Takes guts?

Totally.
