What’s today’s fire index?

Fall wildflowers
A few days ago walking to an “interview”. The door caught my eye.

When we walk out our door into the busy world each morning, what’s on our mind that inspires us to no end?

Is it one thing all day long or a series of small things, constantly changing before our very eyes.

Is it the morning sun illuminating the flowering weeds next to the unmaintained street?

Is it the decision to slow the pace of life down and walk instead of drive?

Is it the decision to fly all day to meet someone versus just speaking on the phone?

The answer, it would seem, is always “Yes”.

Usian Bolt and personal Leadership lessons

So close at the finish.

2015 World Championships 100m final
One one-hundredth of a second between gold and silver

While there where four Americans in yesterday’s 2015 World Championships 100 meter final, i was rooting for a Jamaican.

It doesn’t make me unpatriotic.

It makes me human.

Maybe that’s part of our challenge, we worry about how things have been done in the past.

What if sports were more about what’s possible (in this case winning three consecutive world championship titles) than what country we root for?

The thing about Usain Bolt is that he’s a great human being.

It’s easy for me to forget he’s a Jamaican. In fact, where he’s from doesn’t interest me.

His ability to become a category of one is the real story.

It inspires entrepreneurs and startups to believe that there is hope.

Hope is key.

One world.

One color.

One goal.

Peace.

Working vacations are necessary sometimes

Working vacations are under rated and over rated.

Just like exerting the lifetime effort (personal leadership) to stay healthy and active. Or to opt for ‘relaxing, taking it easy, and enjoying life’ at the expense of exertion.

The key is to take enough vacations so that the odds equal out that some are working vacations and some are not.

This is a tough pill to swallow

Patty Smyth CD 1992
Yesterday while writing, between Buffett and Springsteen…Patty Smyth.

How many of us when we were young would settle for what we have now?

Career success and career happiness are often mutually exclusive.

It’s just so easy to play it safe.

So we do.

And we settle.

For safety.

Safety doesn’t deliver success or happiness.
