What makes you qualified?

MacBook 12-inch box
Bought a week ago, opened the box yesterday. Still haven’t turned it on.

What makes you qualified?

For starters, i do all the stuff i preach about.

Self-confidence and arrogance often look like twins.

And so it goes.

Another in a long list of challenges that are ripe with excuses for backing down.

Disney’s secret strategy for having great employees

Human resources secrets weapon
Screen shot from LinkedIn

No one outside of Disney wants to believe it’s this simple.

Do you want happy, friendly, outgoing employees serving your customers?

Then hire happy, friendly, outgoing people.

You can tell if they are in the first 10 seconds you meet them.

PS. You can hire people who are not outgoing, and their place in your organization will be better suited for back-of-the-house (no-Guest-contact) positions. You want people in front of your customers and patients who are a natural, unforced, fit.

My conscious was bothering me

You can reach a point in life that even the smallest miscommunication bothers you.

Purchased a new MacBook four days ago, and yesterday i took it back, unopened.

Bought it utilizing the back-to-school tax free incentive.

Went to purchase our third 11-inch MacBook Air, this one for Chapin as he enters High School.

Bought a 12-inch MacBook (not an “Air”) that is smaller, lighter, and has a bigger screen.

Since it’s a new Apple product, the temptation to own it tugged on my heart.

So i took it back explaining that it won’t be going to our Son and i’d like to pay the tax that we saved under the back-to-school premise.

Apple said either way it was legit and not to worry about it.

There is something about a 100% clear conscience that is priceless.

Father and Son at Disney World
Most ego-centric leaders have a big heart that competes with career ambitions, fear, and security.

Truth be told, most (ego-centric) leaders aren’t fond of me.

This used to bother me.

A lot.

So much so that i tried to change.

And in a way, i did, without selling out.

The creative solution (to keep personal integrity intact) is simply to only ask them questions if they ask for input.

Nothing asked, nothing offered.

Safe.

Meanwhile, writing became the outlet for asking uninvited questions.

Questions every leader should have a ready, instantaneous answer to, but, remarkably, don’t.
