Mountain leadership

If you hike with me in Glacier, you can expect me to:

  • Be at our trailhead by 6AM (to ensure parking)
  • Plan easiest hikes early in week
  • Plan longer hikes later in week
  • Have fun
  • Be flexible
  • Stop often to gaze and wonder
  • Use sound leadership judgement
  • Carry more water than you think you’ll need
  • Plan on worst case
  • Carry a Garmin satellite GPS device for emergencies
  • Carry a basic 1st aid kit
  • Carry a headlamp (you should too)
  • Stop often to take photos/vids (you should too)
  • Carry a pocket rain poncho (you should too)
  • Carry a pocket emergency blanket (you should too)
  • Carry bear spray (you won’t need to if you’re with me, otherwise, never go on a trail without bear spray)
  • Carry a power brick (you should too)
  • Carry backup eye-glasses (you should too)
  • Carry gloves, neckerchief, beanie (for unexpected windchill)
