The most important of the 19 Disney Blueprints

A clear, concise, compelling vision is what i told you was most important of the 19.

Here’s what i was saying in the words of Adam Grant, Wharton School of Business

Success Linked to Helping Others

Grant expands further on CNBC Make It: “The most meaningful way to succeed is to help other people succeed,” says Grant.

If that’s anti-climatic for you, consider the evidence. Having worked with and studied literally thousands of leaders, Grant has observed that great leaders think bigger than themselves — they advance a vision or an idea or a project that’s “going to affect a lot of people,” explains Grant.

“When you do that, and align people toward a common goal, elevating their success also elevates your organization’s success,” says Grant.

“When you track the evidence, it tends to really work because leaders who put other people first, they end up inspiring a different kind of effort, a different level of motivation, and a greater sense of belongingness,” says Grant.

“The ones that I admire the most, who also tend to produce the best results, are the ones who are givers not takers — who say ‘look, it’s not all about me,'” states Grant.

Thank goodness for the safe and predictable way

Status quo is doing things the way we’ve always done them.

You know, the comfortable way.

The way that was important at one time.

A time years, decades, or even centuries ago.

But today is today.

Now take a deep breath and reflect on your position as a career professional.

Playing it safe by not challenging status quo because it’s too risky for our future ambitions and our current stability.

Managers maintain an efficient status quo while leaders attack the status quo to create something new.

Do less of what doesn’t work.

Do more of what does.

But you have to figure out what is what.

Odds are high, right now, you are unaware.

The art of important, sustainable change requires this

Important, sustainable change only happens with a clear, concise, compelling vision and the simple architecture to support it.

Without intentional blueprints, an organization has no powerful, unrelenting battle cry.

Without a rally-point, the entire team metaphorically drifts at sea, and not only drifts, but drifts apart individually and collectively.

Being busy lets you do this one thing to literal perfection

interesting signs in Philadelphia
Random sign caught my eye.

Being busy lets you do this one thing to literal perfection.

Hide from your mission and purpose in life.

First, you refuse to be clear, concise, and compelling about your purpose.

Second, (insidiously) without clarity, you hide from your real work – the risky stuff that may not work – the stuff that makes others uncomfortable – but if it worked, it would triumphantly change everything.

Because you aren’t clear, you and everyone else, can’t tell what success looks like.

Hiding.

Safe.

Can’t be a failure, right?

Can’t see the bullseye, so missing it goes unnoticed.

Safe.

We like safe.

Safety adds insult to injury.

Without clarity, you lose all sense of urgency.

Without urgency, distraction trumps focus.

Without focus and urgency, being busy comforts you.

And exhausts you.

And everyone around you.

Epidemic of disconnection

Disney Keynote Speakers
If an idea doesn’t get implemented, the idea doesn’t exist in the real world.

Epidemic of disconnection.

The disconnection from organizational vibrancy stems from a lack of clarity with your leadership vision.

Light a torch of awareness.

Be crystal clear.

If you’re not, please don’t come running to me.

i cannot do the exercises for you.
