You are never tested and tempted to make excuses

Being on the road reminds me of how important habits are.

You are never tested and tempted to make excuses like you are when you travel – everything about your routine is out of synch.

You’re living in a hotel room.

No kitchen, no car (probably), travel fatigue, weather changes, limited to resources that fit in your travel bag(s), etc.

The interesting thing as i observe people and organizations as a profession is that habits drive everything we do.

We have the power to change habits, but we almost always make excuses for why we can’t change.

To which a brilliant piece of wisdom emerges automatically:

Can’t and won’t are not synonymous.

i can’t change.

i won’t change.

Those two are not the same.

Every day we are busy doing one or the other

Mojave download
Dark mode. Going to use it to see what happens. Trying new things is challenging for most. New things may not be as good as the old tried-and-true things.

MacBook storage metric
Two MacBooks. Always have a backup.

Every day we are either busy being born or we are busy dying.

Disney has taught me the power of being intentional and helped me with a transformational reality:

i am intentional with the same things i used to be unintentional with or ignored.

It’s who you know

i’m assuming my relationship with Char facilitated a quick and easy cancellation approval.

Make feedback normal. Not a performance review.  – Ed Batista

There are enough unscrupulous people to influence the negative stereotypes of vacation home renters.

What might have been a drawn-out hassle of proving extenuating circumstances, wasn’t.

Char didn’t flinch in immediately refunding my paid-in-full reservation.

For the past year, i’ve communicated with her in manageable chunks and often paying compliments about her cabin and to her community.

Culture is defined in one word

Culture is defined in one word.

Habits.

The easier it is to do something, the easier it is to do it again. The easier it is to not do something, the easier it is to not do it again.

The creative business ideas to put a bigger dent in our Universe

Disney Keynote Speaker jeff noel
Never gets old. In 1982, i looked out the window in the highest room, in the tallest tower. It was dark. And Magical.

The creative business ideas to put a bigger dent in our Universe have to be generated or you don’t have them.

Duh, right?

Idea generation comes from thinking.

Thinking comes from time during your day.

Your day is filled with stuff.

By intentionally carving out structure and processes that you control, you systematically create daily space for creativity to flourish.

In my former life, i would have immediately dismissed the notion of writing seven Disney Business books simultaneously.

Imagine publishing a series of business books based on spending your life learning, doing, and teaching the world-famous Disney culture secrets.

Can you imagine?

Would you rise to the occasion?

Would you announce it at the journey’s start?

Or would you wait until it’s fully completed?

In reality, you’d probably do both and then for good measure, you’d do a third option – a hybrid of the first two.
