Taking risks is risky

The mountains are calling and i must go. Thank you John Muir.

Taking risks is risky. so is playing it safe.

Note to self: You’ve been playing it way too safe with your seven Disney Books series.

Launching and doing something are the twin siblings for growth.

Go!

The lift a word can bring

Why add Great? How about Northern Railway? That would have been specific enough, right?

In the 1990’s we (Disney) changed our Guest Service Fanatic recognition program to Great Service Fanatic.

The lift a word can bring is not lost on great organizations like Disney and Apple.

Not everyone, particularly backstage Cast, felt they served “Guests”.

Changing the word clearly defined great (not good or very good) as the standard.

Changing the word also clarified that every Cast Member serves others, even if they are “only” fellow Cast Members.

One more thing, when i use words like “we”, the karma i’m projecting is simple:

Once a 30-year officially-retired Cast Member, always a Cast Member.

i still carry a Cast Member ID card that provides all the same Cast benefits except backstage access.

Heavy Runner

Heavy Runner on left and Mt Reynolds in partial view on right. Ancient sea-bottom fossil foreground.

What do you think of when you hear the phrase heavy runner?

Do you think of leadership?

i do.

And a dozen other things.

You could present almost any word or name and i could make a leadership connection.

On the left is the backside of Heavy Runner. The leadership it took me (and Rob) to get to this view is extraordinary.

35 Magical Years of Disney Service

Today, my wife Cheryl celebrates 35 Magical years of Service at The Walt Disney World Resort and for The Walt Disney Company.

So impressive.

Not the number of years.

The magnitude of her contribution.

If you don’t have to, work

Rob arrived at noon yesterday from Orlando.

If you don’t have to, why would you?

You’re an adult and you can pretty much take any life path you want.

You’re the boss.

So, if you don’t have to be remarkable at work, why would you invest the time, energy, and karma to develop, maintain, and enhance the output required of an artist?
