We know this and respond appropriately

(photo: iPhone screen shot… the magic (aka passion) is drained out of us with, “Quit acting like a child… grown up, etc”)

Funny isn’t it, the way we dream of change and yet do the same routine in spite of knowing better?

Can you picture the fictional Ostrich sticking it’s head in the sand in order to hide?

This is (literally) sickening sad to any soul who views their job as art. Who treats creating magic as a privilege.

How can anyone desire this and not take action to not schlug through their day, day after day?

The triumph is in walking away. Walking away from mediocrity and average.

But how does one decide to simply walk away. Easy. Take the risk.

Taking risks is risky.

So is playing it safe.

We know this.

And do nothing.

There is comfort in having a great excuse

(photo: Invest the time to do it today, or regret it later… three hours round trip… skipped dinner as a compromise)

There is comfort in having a great excuse.

Great excuses give us the freedom to choose easily.

Deadly isn’t it?

Quotes inspire us for a moment, and we think, “Yeah, damn right”

The project has several tasks, including making the mobile look make sense (which this does not)

Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action. – Benjamin Disraeli

The thing with quotes like this is they inspire us for a moment, and we think, “Yeah, damn right”.

And then some shiny thing catches our attention (again).

Know what I mean?

When we wait for somebody else to change nothing changes.

creative lab values
I am Disney‘ is a mantra some can say with conviction and from experience (Ideas only Disney can do)

Nothing will change until:

  • leadership approves
  • HR approves
  • finance approves

Sound familiar?

When we wait for somebody else to change nothing changes.

Find an ethical way to do remarkable, amazing things at work that require zero approval, even if they are so small no one on your team notices.

Why?

Because your customers will notice, and they deserve remarkable and shouldn’t have to wait for it.

The exception is when you are a start-up and you are building and haven’t yet officially opened your doors.

And if you are the owner of the startup, as you build, be focused on blowing the roof off traditional expectations.

Looks good on paper but really, who’s got time?

Wishful thinking
Interesting photo pulled from FB but cannot recall the originator (wishful thinking?)

When we are overwhelmed (probably daily) with things to do and think about, it’s often best to pause.

To regroup.

To think.

To take stock.

To reprioritize.

To plan.

To unpause and take action.

Better action than before the pause.

But our work is our mistress.

Who’s got time?
