On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Switching gears from Bob Iger to one of my potential clients, also a CEO.
The CEO is calculating. That’s why she has lasted this long and that’s why her business does well economically while many in her industry suffer. She is exceptionally smart, driven, patient, and creative.
It will be interesting to see what happens when we get closer to how much it’s going to cost.
My gut (which isn’t 100% accurate, but it’s close) tells me she’s trying to use time (and patience) as a creative way to get me to lower my price, simply because i’ve invested so many months (near a year now) in tasting the strong possibility of a contract.
Interesting thing though. i’m cut from the same cloth. The person who will prevail is the one who can walk away.
While i hope things will work out, i’ve already envisioned life without this contract.
In a competitive world, i can’t help but wonder if she envisions her organization’s future culture without my help.
Boldness contains many benefits. Boldness also contains the possibility for a crash and burn.

If one cannot state a matter clearly enough so that even an intelligent twelve-year-old can understand it, one should remain within the cloistered walls of the university and laboratory until one gets a better grasp of one’s subject matter. –Pioneering anthropologist Margaret Mead , from the 1979 volume: Some Personal Views
Simplicity is operational genius.
Dear jeff, please be quiet until you can make it easy for us to understand what you are trying to say.
Dear world, jeff is ready. He speaks about how to change dysfunctional corporate culture using Disney’s simple, time-tested business architecture.

When i think about commitment at Disney, it reminds me of eggs and bacon at breakfast. The chicken is involved. The pig is committed. Sounds kinda ridiculous until we dwell on the notion for a moment. The difference between involved employees and committed employees is the difference between running with the pack, or clearly outdistancing the competition.
Fun trivia: The only place Guests could find Mickey Mouse when Epcot Center opened on October 1, 1982 was on the drain hole covers, pictured here. Epcot Center opened as “the adult Park” and there were no characters. We quickly discovered this was a huge mistake.

Brainstorming at Disney is focused on one thing above all others – volume. No judging or critiquing ideas while brainstorming. We can only pick from what we generate, so anything that slows or inhibits volume is prohibited.
