Four things they have that the others haven’t mastered yet

Stack of Mid Life Celebration books
Most people dream of publishing a book.

When we think about how lucky someone else is in their career, know what happens to our psyche?

We sabatoge it.

We stifle it.

We do many things, except get a grip and understand that at one time, they were exactly where we are now.

And admit that why they are where they are is because they refused to let mistakes, embarrassment, pain, rejection, ridicule, and exhaustion stop them.

How does one know such things?

Tenacity, perseverance, determination, and milestones.

Moments we catch ourselves thinking negatively about someone

big drainage pipes in Orlando site
Obvious. Important. Then buried. Invisible to everyone but ourselves.

Our greatest opportunities for self improvement are those moments when we catch ourselves thinking negatively about someone.

It’s a weird (cruel?) reality.

What we dislike in another, is almost assuredly a blind spot within ourselves.

The revealing of our blind spot(s) should be joyful.

Because now we know.

And we can train ourselves to change and become better.

What makes us smile about accomplishing something like this?

Reams Road construction near Disney World Cast Entrance
Obscure photo (not to the neighbors) taken on a run near Disney’s North Cast entrance.

What makes us smile because we’ve worked hard our whole life to reach a certain point in our life?

And does anyone know?

Does anyone even care?

In the big picture, it doesn’t matter.

Because we do it for ourselves and the things it allows us to do for others.

Heading to Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park today. And tomorrow.

Shoot, can go there seven days a week if desired.

Talk about miracles, no?

Ever been to one (or all) of these places in your career?

Tree growth rings in a wooden bridge post
Slow and steady growth, year after year after year

After nearly 15 years (since March 1999) and speaking to over one million people, something magical is happening within a career.

Ever been to a place like this in your lifetime?

The place where you feel like:

  • an artist
  • unencumbered
  • unmotivated by title, status, rank, salary
  • on fire
  • work everyday as if your life depended on it
  • become a stranger with fear
  • marry possibility
  • inspire positive change
  • feel like you have finally arrived
  • and the next week, years, or maybe even decade (or second half) are your years to bloom

This is insane. Like the first day of first grade.

Real life in real time.

General human blindness and wealth inequity in America

Three months ago Seth Godin shared this post which features a link to the video above, and dialogue unrelated to wealth. It’s mostly about how we have trouble visualizing important statistics and the video is really well done and effective at making things crystal clear.

What still is not clear, to me anyway, is how we put so much stock in tomorrow, without fully investing in today.

Not talking about money, rather personal leadership.
