Intentionally waited until bedtime to be a leader

High School freshman studying
He spent the entire weekend preparing for finals week.

Intentionally waited until bedtime to tell him, “Your work ethic and focus impressed me this weekend.”

Wanted him to take that feedback to bed with him to ponder his behavior and hopefully begin to understand that there are times when the characteristics he demonstrated this weekend will serve him as an adult.

Leadership progress is made slowly and surely

Disney Springs new crosswalk
Intersection of Buena Vista Drive and Hotel Plaza Boulevard at Walt Disney World.

Disney Springs new crosswalk
Our first use of the new Disney Springs crosswalk, Friday, November 13.

Leadership progress is made slowly and surely. In between all the photos of our life living next to Walt Disney World is the reality that life is challenging for every Family, no exceptions. Being a parent is the greatest leadership responsibility we will ever have. It’s one that tests every fiber in my body. And i love rising to the occasion every time.

Dear Son, can trying not so hard be a breakthrough?

Holy Family Catholic Church Orlando
Compelled to take this photo from the last row, next to the “Cry Room”.

i’ve always believed this to be true, but am not sure i can recall the last time it felt real – felt transformational.

Letting go of any motive that isn’t genuine.

i continue to write because i’ve discovered how much it transforms me – one single, solitary day (step) at a time.

i began writing seven years ago because i thought it was the best way to be a successful speaker.

Yes.

But now i see why, and it is not for the reasons i originally thought.

The harder i work, the luckier i get. Seems so anyway.

From the ashes we build anew

Middle school field trip
Middle schoolers go to high school and before you know it, they’re gone.

For two weekends in a row, i’ve not worked the way i have for the past seven years. Since late 2008, i’ve been working two jobs, seven days a week.

And for the past year, while traveling for Disney Institute is no longer a necessity, the challenging journey without a map – using nothing but experience and instinct as a solo entrepreneur – has required a level of performance i had only hoped i would possess when the terrain got rugged.

But since throwing an iPhone 6 into the swimming pool, i’m looking at my own work habits and questioning many things. My son deserves that i look in the mirror.

The gift of freedom to learn your own career lessons

CEO vs janitor
We laugh – and point fingers – but it’s profound.

The gift of freedom to learn your own career lessons.

CEO’s are vulnerable because they get handled. No one wants to point out the CEO’s blindspots or weaknesses because of the assorted socially perpetuated hallucinations about how doing this is bad for your career.

PS. You are the CEO of You, Inc.
