Wasn’t fishing for a compliment from the social worker

lightbulb evolution
From the Internet but don’t know who to attribute it to.

i talk and write prolifically about health, wellness, balance, Disney, excellence, death, living, personal responsibility, excuses, and second chances.

In our lengthy conversation, i never shared what i do nor where i spent a lifetime working.

And i certainly wasn’t fishing for a compliment from the social worker.

Spoke with her for 50 minutes. She was a generous listener, a wise counsel.

And at one point she said, “You really have a strong grasp on the issues you face. I talk to many people but I don’t talk to many people who have that.”

While her agency isn’t the right one, she was the right one for the first call.

Chris Brogan emails me every Sunday

James Altucher
A link to James’s website arrived yesterday via an email from Chris Brogan.

This is, as far as i can remember, a first on any of my blogs – a cut and paste  – this one from James Altucher’s blog

G) ABV. Always Be Vulnerable.

Nobody wants to hear from Invulnerable Man. They want to hear where you are scared and vulnerable and feeling insecure. Because we all do.

Poor speakers create an artificial divide between themselves and the audience. They feel they need to do this in order to establish their own credibility.

Let me tell you – there is no such thing as credibility. In 100 years there will be no buildings named after any of us.

Somebody has to be on stage and some people have to be in the audience. That’s the only difference.

Don’t put any thought as to WHY you are on the stage or how you need to be “better” than the people in the audience. You aren’t better. You’re simply the speaker.

We all woke up lonely and confused this morning. What a miracle that we get to speak to each other.

And even better, we feed the soul by listening to each other. Ultimately, the best speakers are the ones who have put 10,000 hours into listening.

– the end –

Okay, now back to me. Everyone wants to be on the winning team if given a choice. Personally, i want to hear from someone who burned the ships. i want vision, courage, purpose.

And, and this is a BIG and, i think adults are smart enough to know that there is no such thing as invulnerable man. Everyone gets that life is hard.

Change your scripts and you change your results

Disney Customer Service Speakers
One of 2017’s Writer’s Retreat locations.

Often in business, our decision is driven by price.

Sometimes, like yesterday, the price i’ve come to expect wasn’t available.

Two choices.

Buy now at the higher price.

Wait and hope the price drops.

Here’s the catch.

Waiting may limit the flight choices and the price may increase even more.

It felt great to rewrite the old script that said, don’t pay the higher price.

The new script says, make a decision now and move on.

Unmade decisions pile up and overwhelm.

Decisiveness comes with a price – the speed of business, and sanity.

What trumps what?

culture
From a phone conversation a few days ago.

Tennessee car dealership…

Culture trumps sales.

Later, it evolved to…

Culture trumps everything.

A car dealer decided he had seen enough proof at Disney Institute and became one of a super small percentage of advocates that transformed things without having to be led kicking and screaming to try stuff.

What equals what?

Disney customer service speakers
Notes to myself, for posterity, and for changing the world.

Culture = behavior.

Behavior = results.

Culture = results.

Got it?

How is your culture driving your employees to do inspiring and excellent work?

If you said, “Oh my gosh, it’s unbelievably wonderful.”, you are living with intentionality.
