From the Boardroom to the bathroom

From the boardroom to the bathroom.

From CEO’s to Custodial staff.

They have a job to do.

It would seem to the outsider their job might sound like this:

  • The deepest thinker in the room?
  • At all times?
  • Seriously, is their job to rattle the cage?
  • If people walk out of the room thinking the same way they walked in, did we need to have the meeting?

All of the above.

Safety is way more than physical safety

Walt Disney World 30 year s of service pin

(photo: Today, September 27, 2014  marks 30 official years of service… a top ten most admired company in the world… this was the plan way back as a 25-year old ‘kid’)

The screen saver on the company issued iPhone 4s is a photo of his name tag and business card.

Why?

Because the phone requires a password after one minute.

No one would be able to access the phone’s contents to determine how to get it back to the owner it it was lost.

But the screen saver contains his land line phone number, address, and email, and also identifies the owner’s integrity and reputation.

If the screen saver was a Disney character or Family member photo, or a nature scene… the odds of reuniting the owner are drastically reduced.

Every Most business professional know this. Yet do nothing different.

They aren’t clueless, although prevailing evidence suggests otherwise

Spring Grove, PA road signs

Her boss wants her to write a bunch of examples showcasing how great her performance was for the past year.

She really doesn’t want to do it because:

  • It will not influence her pay
  • No one will ever read it after the annual work review is completed
  • Shouldn’t her boss already know how amazing she is?

A once a year performance appraisal is perhaps one of the biggest crocks in the western hemisphere.

When a teen violates a curfew, the parent doesn’t wait until the end of the year to go over it.

Parents are very busy people, just like bosses.

Figure it out people. Figure it out.

Midlife change is in the air for Orlando Based Leadership Speakers

Orlando Based Speakers

Most people dream of being their own boss.

Weirdly, we already are.

You are the CEO of You, Inc. Same here.

The decisions we make determine if our CEO works for someone else or works independent of any other boss or business.

Could one person create a collective, societal sigh of relief?

Dalai Lama quote on love

(photo: Facebook status update screen shot… something about brevity that turns us on… inspires us.)

Had wanted to write a shorter performance appraisal, but just didn’t have the time.

Anyone can go on and on about how great they are.

Most do, actually.

Human nature.

Conditioning.

Past practice.

Acceptable practice.

Expected practice?

It used to be expected that a black person would give up their seat on a bus so a white person could have the seat instead.

Thank goodness for the people who saw it differently and challenged the expected practice.

But woe to the solitary misfit at the office.

The one using performance appraisal brevity to shine a spotlight.

It could be a remarkable breakthrough.

One creating a collective, societal sigh of relief.

Or, it could fail, landing the perpetrator in trouble (again) with the reputation they have with their leaders for “creating waves”.
