Is this the greatest leadership challenge?

Airport overflow parking at sunrise
Yesterday, like the day before that, and again this morning, began the same. Darkness turns to dawn. Dawn turns to sunrise. The sun moves across the sky. Etc.

Letting go of things that don’t matter may be the greatest leadership challenge we ever face.

Things.

That.

Don’t.

Matter.

They pile up and overwhelm us.

The leadership paradox is irrefutable

Notes on a post it note
Brief phone call for clarity, which led to new thoughts…

Rigid or clear?

Unreasonable or fair?

Alone or collaboration?

Wishing or planning?

Uncommitted or committed.

Failure or triumph?

Uncertain or certain?

Timid or brave?

Clear, concise, and compelling vision?

Fear or confidence.

Status quo or transformation?

Unintentional or intentional?

Wait or go?

Safe or Risky?

The old look.

We wait.

And we will always be waiting.

We think that will change.

But it won’t.

Why?

Because asking our boss for permission for our crazy ambitious idea offers little for the boss.

If the idea works, we get credit.

If it fails, our boss has made a bad decision.

There are exceptions.

You could have a boss who has mastered the art of risk and reward.
