Painfully Simple: Everyday Or Not At All

Captiva Island, Florida general store, 2010….

When you tell me to stop, I’ll stop. Until then, here’s another example of leadership behavior – dreaming of a brighter future.

There are painful times in our lives when we must swallow a bitter pill – the truth.

Bottom line, I had two choices when it came to drinking, everyday, or not at all. December 30, 2001 was the last time.

Got Time For One More Leadership Example From jeff noel?

So in 1999, the Doc says, “With your Family  history of heart disease, you need to exercise and diet to lower your cholesterol out of the danger zone, okay? You don’t want to die of a heart attack like your grandfather or have debilitating strokes like your grandmother.”

Next day I ran to our neighbor’s mailbox. Did that each day for a week. Then 2 mailboxes a day for a week, then 3… Ten years later.

Here’s jeff noel in Lahti, Finland – 5,300 Masters athletes representing 80 countries at the 2009 Masters Track & Field World Championships.

jeff noel, Can You Give Us An Example Of How You Applied This Leadership Behavior?

I can draw you a map – right side, middle – to Crohn’s disease…

How many examples would you like?

When I committed to raising money to donate to The Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), it went something like this:

Figure out how to raise $1000, wait, no, how to raise $3,000, I mean $10,000, $100,000 to help find a cure. A few more seconds went by and I remember who I work for (a big-time dreamer), dude, you work for WDW… $1,000,000!

One-million dollars got written down as 1 of my 5 big bucket items. It stayed there for some time until the epiphany.

One million dollars? Really? That’s all? How about jeff noel helps raise money until the cure is found. Then stop.

You gettin’ this or do you need a map? And I mean that in the nicest (funny) way possible.

Oops, 13 days early. Sorry…

Happy Summer Solstice! The most daylight of all the days. And a reminder that 100 years from now, we’ll all be long gone. Except for maybe a leadership legacy – the difference we made in the lives of others as leaders with a purpose.

To the world you may just be one person. To one person you may just be the world.

You are here for a reason. Have you figured this out 100%?

Ok Let’s Move On To The Next Important Leadership Behavior

A piece of paper actually becomes a famous fighter-plane, Dog-Fighter. For real. No joke. Prepare for takeoff….

Rather than label leadership as skill or talent, let’s call leadership our behaviors. Dreaming is a behavior all children are born with. Kids can stretch out their arms, run around in a room, and actually feel like they are flying. Remember?

So, the next building block behavior is dreaming. Dreaming? Seriously? A leadership skill? Downplay this and your mail will go straight to the Mediocrity-ville post office.
