Only one way to have balance?

Dorney Park Roller Coasters in Winter

(photo: Dorney Park roller coasters during yesterday’s winter jog in Allentown, Pennsylvania.)

Cliche, but life is full of highs and lows, like a roller coaster.

The thing about the future and our ability to lead ourselves is that everything in the future is unpredictable.

Except one thing.

Death.

Be ready for death at any time. This is the ultimate personal leadership strategy.

Being intentional about this frees you to be intentional about one other critical success factor.

Living like you mean it.

A simple work reminder for 2015

Yocco's Hot Dogs

Yocco's Hot Dogs

(photo: Pretty sure the founder didn’t claim to be “The Hot Dog King” in 1922.)

A simple reminder for all you zealots working at admirable companies. People think you’re the last group needing a reminder to be amazing for the new year.

Passionate, ambitious, authentic people are always looking at what they can do to make things better.

Always.

But they subconsciously forget that what they are already doing is amazing.

How do you inspire these crazy, passionate, game changers?

They doubt themselves too.

Constantly.

Even though you think they don’t.

PS. Guess who had hot dogs for dinner last night?

Confession time

Noel

(photo: Disney characters and NOEL Christmas decoration in a Disney fanatic’s home.)

Confession time. It’s tough to walk the talk.

Why?

Because of the high probability some will be offended, and our distaste for offending others.

And then those people (your friends, colleagues, Family) will call you arrogant. And they’ll do it behind your back and gossip about you.

This is the first and best sign you have a passion that you can’t contain.

But you may never fully unleash it because you’re too worried about what others think.

Important to note:

Over time we’ve all been jealous of another’s success, or angry at our lack of success. Or both. Our colleague’s success is an unintentional spotlight on our personal issues.

Also over time is the ability to rise above this.

The main illusion stopping people from chasing their dreams

Orlando Disney Keynote Speakers

(photo: Walt Disney seemed to have a midas touch. Truth is, his creativity was honed from a simple business reality – survival of the fittest.)

The main illusion stopping people from chasing their dreams like they mean it?

Waiting until they are ready.

Being ready is an illusion.

It never happens.

You can prepare, but you can never be truly ready.

Note: One small example of how Disneyland was a successful failure. Even though he prepared, he realized only after the fact that he hadn’t purchased enough land. He severely underestimated the size of his dreams.
