Serendipity that we are here to witness the tradition that only lasts until the top long is ashes.

Habits and rituals create your culture.

Over the years, have heard of the season’s end tradition to take the final fire log and throw it in Lake McDonald to extinguish it.

Then retrieve the log from the lake and store it over the winter.

Then on next season’s opening day, use it on the first fire of the new season.

We witnessed the tradition today.

Polebridge vision

Polebridge mercantile storefront
Today we stayed on the West side.

A vision is lofty, hard to articulate. You may not say it the same way twice. It helps if it is deemed by others to be impossible.

dad

Polebridge is way off the beaten path.

Access to Polebridge includes miles of unpaved road.

Other than the bakery and souvenir merchandise, there’s not much reason to visit.

Yet someone’s vision of what Polebridge could become has been nurtured over the decades.

To create and sustain a viable business model in this spot defies logic.

And that’s the vision’s beauty.

It should have shut down long ago.
