What leadership thoughts come to mind at a Funeral?

What leadership thoughts come to mind at a Funeral?

At what point in life should we be prepared for death?

Is our paperwork, wishes, and logistical plan laid out?

Have we prepared for multiple scenarios (tragedy, disease, injury, old-age)?

What legacy (if we wanted one) is desired and how do others understand this?

Was the deceased afraid or excited about the next leg of their journey?

Dear Son, thank you for last night’s extended conversation

Disney Keynote Speakers
So yeah, in this photo, i’m thinking this may be my last view of Logan Pass. And i’m aware there could be many more, but i am living as if 2018 is my last Summer there.

Things in your life will either be better than you expect or less than you expect.

We do not have a crystal ball to tell us exactly how the future will unfold.

This is called a blinding flash of the obvious.

But this little gem, below, isn’t obvious (even though it is)…

When “bad things” happen, rejoice that good things also happen – and in ways that are much better than we could have imagined.

Focus on this yin and yang.

Both extremes teach us.

Be a great and grateful student.

Why?

Because if you aren’t, think deeply about what you get as the opposite.

One leader fades, another is just sprouting

One leader fades, another is just sprouting.

As i sit next to Margaret, alternating between holding her hand, whispering loving thoughts in her ear, and writing today’s posts, it’s not lost on me that today is Walt Disney’s birthday.

Our entire family, on both sides, has enjoyed Walt Disney’s legacy.

And Cheryl’s side in particular has enjoyed Margaret’s and Johnny’s legacy.

Only the inspired inspire

Only the inspired inspire.

Yes.

The best performers are great consistently, they are great at being consistent.

And i would add this:

The best performers understand that balance in life is not about time, balance is about energy.

i’m fascinated by the work results of setting a 10-year deadline

Glacier National Park Aerial view, July 2017.

i’m fascinated by the work results of setting a 10-year deadline.

i knew when i made the 10-year plan it included retiring from Disney at 55 and doing my last five years on Earth as a small business owner.

The small business component was driven by two things:

The desire to not be on the road while Chapin is in High School.

The belief that i could make a bigger impact outside of corporate Disney.

i was right.

Why?

i trusted my gut.

And i’ve been really lucky.
