RIP Scott

January 24 (yesterday), 2013 a colleague sent our team an email and then took his life.

From the first week 20 years ago in 1999 when i began my Disney Speaking career, i felt compelled and obligated to always offer every audience a balance between Pixie Dust (our vision) and Reality.

It is good to frequently pause to recall the past.

Scott and i spent a good deal of time traveling domestically and internationally for some big clients.

Disney is not immune to unmagical things.

The A-Z list of things every organization struggles with, we do too.

That’s why my messages and context neutral Disney Business insights will help any person, at any level, in any industry.

Super excited to grow my impact in 2019.

Scott, you’d be proud.

PS. When working with Scott, the highest compliment you could receive from him was his Manhatten-influenced feedback, “That didn’t suck.”

Better to set and fail than not set and fail

“Setting challenges is part of me, it’s part of my DNA,” Dave McGillivray says. “I can be okay with missing my goals. To me that’s not a failure. But not setting goals, that does seem like more of a failure.”

Full Runner’s World article here.

The article is about a 64-year old guy who’s recently had triple bypass heart surgery.

Reread his quote three sentences above.

Then think about your own life.

And ask yourself a simple question, “What are my important goals?”

Regardless of your answer, your answer should serve you well.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Fail like it’s day one.

Day one?

Yes.

The day you officially became a company.

Run your company like you’re hungry to succeed beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.

Like you were on day one.

Risk taking must become second nature

Courage, tenacity, sacrifice, passion, purpose.

Risk taking must become second nature.

There is no other way to push boundaries.

Remember, it’s only impossible until you do it the first time.

17 days on $200 cash

Bicycling through the San Juan Islands
We got a window seat for lunch this day, while island-hopping through Washington State’s San Juan Islands.

i knew one thing for sure as a newlywed – doing something unique, perhaps even unconventional, would be way more memorable than doing the stereotypical honeymoon, which by the way, there was no way i (we) could afford.

Our 17-days (there was no predetermined length before embarking on the honeymoon) of travel were paid for with the $200 cash we carried with us.

That’s some crazy math: $200 to cover 17 travel days.

PS. There was that one night, when we stayed in Victoria, British Columbia motel, where we used Cheryl’s credit card. The campground was too far away, so we splurged.
