Giving back generously without expectation is fairly rare

Orange County Public Hearing
i was the second one in the room after our Headmaster.

Gave back (donated nearly two hours) to a Disney leader in the morning, offering advice and answering questions.

Invested four hours in supporting our High School’s efforts to secure the zoning variances needed to build a Visual and Performing Arts building that will then allow a partnership with Julliard.

Did i have the time to do these things?

Technically, no.

Two big deadlines are at risk.

And so it goes, one crazy day after another.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

An example of Disney’s world famous intentionality

Tomorrow (as this goes live) is the one year anniversary of my last day at Disney.

Today (as this is written, July 30) is the drive to Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the 2015 Masters Track & Field National Championships.

This video link is for posterity. It addresses the notion that the root of organizational change is personal change.

In the digital frontier, which is really where we are in 2015, having the best tool is a huge advantage.

It may seem like technology is advanced, but…

Long ago the bow and arrow became a breakthrough that made a spear or a sling obsolete.

And then along comes this little thing called a rifle.

No time for lunch in the past 30 years?

No.

Not in the past 30 years did Cheryl and i have lunch together. Countless dinners at Disney, but never lunch. Why? The pace is fast at Disney. Outsiders have no idea.

We also did not have lunch together a few days ago after the first paying, post Disney speaking gig.

Made an honest attempt. But with Cheryl being out sick all week, it made a really good argument for staying in the office.

In hindsight, i could have brought lunch into her office.

Live and learn.
