Leaders eventually leave

Leaders eventually leave.

In a busy world, it’s easy to forget.

Someday a leader retires, gets promoted, moves away, or possibly dies.

We no longer get to interact with that leader the way we originally had the privilege to.

To over-focus on that, i published a life-guide (a book) for our son.

It published Thanksgiving Day 2013. The year before my Disney retirement. Also an over-focused, intentional choice.

Career gymnastics

Spent five hours combing through all my FaceBook posts. Monica’s Real Estate Business Podcast was recorded as a kickoff to her “tribe” of ambitious real estate agents. They listened to one episode per week and then discussed it in a separate (also weekly) Zoom meeting. Watched about 15 minutes of it and it was ‘pretty good’. So i didn’t delete it. It’s here.

Career gymnastics.

Don’t let your blind ambition erase your intuition.

Climb high, but ensure you love what you do.

A ‘good’ paycheck is a high price to pay when you wish you had a more fulfilling job.

Work is only work if you’d rather be doing something else.

We work while others play.

Holidays, nights, weekends.

You are expected to have “full-availability”.

For your entire career.

Everyone at Disney gets this. Not everyone likes it. But you make a commitment to being on a world-class team and you do your part, like everyone else. Nights, weekends, holidays.

Only two folks i had never met before. Cheryl and i worked directly with many and indirectly with the rest. Ps. “Mickey and Minnie”, back row center.

Active and retired.

Once Disney, always Disney.

Always.

Ps. It’s a lifestyle choice. You don’t realize it in the beginning. It’s possible to go unnoticed during your career. But once you leave and look back, it’s totally a lifestyle choice.
